EH&S Manager, Regional

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides leadership and technical support to a defined region of facilities (typically geographic). Plans, oversees, directs, and implements EHS management systems within the defined region to ensure risks to the environment and risks to employee health and safety are adequately managed to prevent occupational illnesses, injuries and environmental releases.  The following duties may be carried out personally or in conjunction with local plant EHS coordinators or by enabling teams and Management initiatives NVH is looking for an EHS Manager to support the following locations Angola, IN, |Napoleon, OH, |Northville, MI |Milan, OH|Reynosa, MX. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership, technical support and organizational assistance in Environment, Health and Safety Management to the specified regional sites.
  • Coaches individual plant personnel responsible for EHS Management. Encourages and directs professional development activities and promotion of certification (CIH, CSP).
  • Lead regional EH&S committee meetings as needed to set objectives and review safety related statistics and corrective actions
  • Ensures company standards are implemented at each site; supervises each regional plant’s annual EHS self-audit; leads and coordinates the Corporate EHS audits for the plants within the region; supports and verifies the closure of EHS audit findings.
  • Facilitates 8D investigations of significant incidents; is reasonably able to be on-site following a significant incident within 24 hours.
  • Helps develop and monitor OSHA and other EHS regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Helps implement and integrate with the business, EHS management systems and processes to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, Tenneco standards and policies, and 3rd party certifying bodies. (Specifically, coordinates ISO 14001 plant and enterprise certification activities)
  • Drives implementation of the Tenneco Machine Safeguarding Standard (TMSS) and execution of the Engineered Machine Safety & Exposure Control EMSEC process within assigned facilities. Support AME group in technical development in safeguarding of machines.
  • Standardization of procedures and policies including the execution of new processes, or those that may change (management of change) including new product introductions. 
  • Drive standardization and best method process standardization to plants
  • Organize monthly communication calls with regional plants
  • Organize and oversee EHS due diligence for any new sites or businesses purchased or leased by Tenneco.
  • Verifies the plants’ risk assessment and hazard identification processes are executed and properly acted upon  to control unacceptable risks.
  • Drives implementation of the Tenneco Ergonomics Standard and execution of ergonomic tools and processes (Humantech).
  • Provides leadership and support of behavioural safety implementations; understands any gaps in execution and provides support to overcome these gaps; helps facilitate sharing of best BBS practices within the region.
  • Drives integration of EHS  systems and processes into applicable business processes (capital and expense budgeting, new product developments, NPIS, TMS 2.0, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc..).
  • Monitors and tracks permit compliance, anticipates potential non-compliance issues, and identifies appropriate responses to ensure future compliance.
  • Assists with and participates in regulatory enforcement actions such as OSHA compliance inspections, environmental inspections, etc., including follow-up
  • Prepares and shares EHS educational resources and systems to enhance employee training programs.
  • Provides leadership to EHS best practice teams to identify cost reduction opportunities, leverage resources and improve efficiencies of EHS in the manufacturing processes.
  • Participates in EHS evaluation of hazards associated with new process/products and recommends solutions on how to reduce potential risks prior to business unit acceptance.
  • Ensures accurate data management and interpretation. Ensures plant data system users are adequately trained and all EHS-related data is capture and reported and information systems utilized (e.g., AEGIS).
  • Conducts tasks as assigned by the respective Business Operations and EHS leaders.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/engineering discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in an EHS function.
  • Ability to coach and mentor EHS professionals at other facilities.
  • Working knowledge of the following is required: OSHA, machine guarding and hazardous energy control, BBS, Industrial Hygiene, and ergonomics.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish credibility and lead by influence across all levels of the organization
  • Ability and skills to effectively communicate relevant information in writing, conversation, and in public speaking to internal and external employees, customers, visitors, vendors, and compliance officials
  • Ability to analyze issues, develop solutions, and effectively implement solutions
  • Self-initiative and the ability to perform the functions with minimal supervision
  • Creative and innovative spirit. Passionate about EHS and an advocate for team member health and safety.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position would have 3 direct reports with a “dotted line” relationship to the Plant Manager.

TRAVEL

Up to 50% travel expected (mostly in the U.S.).

Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident of the U.S., or generally the ability to ensure continued compliance by the company with all export laws and regulations
