Senior Editor, Yahoo Finance

The Yahoo Finance team is seeking a seasoned and strategic Senior Editor to lead a team of reporters covering the biggest stories shaping markets, industries, and the economy. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced editor with sharp news judgment, a passion for financial news, and a proven ability to guide fast-paced, high-impact coverage. Responsibilities

  • Work in our New York City office at least three days per week

  • Lead a team of reporters to move quickly covering stories related to public and private companies, specific industry sectors, and other topics relevant to investors

  • Edit breaking news stories and planned coverage

  • Use strong news judgment to assign stories and approve or reject pitches

  • Bring a competitive spirit to be fast and accurate on timely stories

  • Communicate story ideas across the newsroom to coordinate coverage with video, graphics, social, and newsletter teams

  • Contribute to data viz projects on beats under purview

  • Leverage data to improve the coverage of individual reporters

  • Write original content as needed

Required Qualifications

  • At least 7 years experience working as an editor at a national news organization

  • People management experience

  • Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides

  • Strong framing and headline writing skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong copy editing skills

  • Strong news judgment and an ability to make real-time decisions

  • Track record of success in a fast-paced newsroom

  • Deep experience with and a passion for financial news

  • Ability to work in person in our New York City office at least three days per week and as coverage needs require

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.A. preferred or equivalent job experience

  • Editorial SEO knowledge is a plus

The compensation for this position ranges from $90,750.00 - $188,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
