Product Engineering Technician

DUTIES: This position will support product engineers in the development of automotive steering and suspension components.  Primary duties include will involve research, data gathering, documenting design requirements provided by product engineers, and preparing layout drawings utilizing CAD.  Research will include inspecting product samples, coordinating part and vehicle inspections, and requesting laboratory testing.  Tasks may also include dimensional inspections of parts using hand tools (micrometers), CMM (coordinate measuring machine), or 3D laser scanner.  Prior experience with this equipment is not necessary.

Secondary duties will include procurement of product samples and coordination of shipment of the samples.  This includes creating purchase orders and tracking receipt of goods for payment.  Related clerical duties may include managing a company credit card budget for purchases, tracking annual spending and submitting expense reports. 

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Familiarity with automotive service and repair is required. Prior experience with 2D CAD software, either through education or professional experience is required.  Candidates must have general proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.  Good interpersonal and technical skills are required to communicate with Product Engineers and coordinate activities between multiple departments and remote facilities as directed.  Candidates must have a strong attention to detail.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software.  Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.  Experience in product development within a highly regulated industry such as Automotive or Aerospace.  Experience with SAP.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma with formal training or experience with technical drafting or design.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/TRAINING: Associates degree in Engineering with formal training or experience with technical drafting or design.
