SR ENGINEER - SYSTEMS Job Details | The Venetian Las Vegas

Venetian Resort Las Vegas Las Vegas, NV (Onsite) Full-Time



Position Overview:

The role of the Sr. Engineer - Systems is to role is to design and deploy system solutions to meet the requirements of core organizational functions, as well as evaluate and recommend technologies required to meet those requirements.  This individual will provide the highest levels of support to ensure the availability, reliability, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems that support the enterprise applications. The Sr. Engineer - Systems will apply proven analytical, and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex issues and drive to root cause of system outages in a complex enterprise environment.  The position demands someone who is highly technically competent, detail oriented, and self-motivated to conduct design and support of systems infrastructure.   All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage a queue of work requests to meet service levels and KPI objectives.
  •  Design and deploy new platforms and enhancements to existing infrastructure, software, and operating systems.
  • Review technical requirements, establish project milestones and tasks and determine level of effort estimates for their completion.
  •  Deploy and maintain Unix and Microsoft Servers, Storage Arrays, VMWare infrastructure and related technologies.
  •  Troubleshoot and repair complex computer system issues for Servers, Active Directory, VMWare, application services and end-user issues while working within an enterprise environment.
  • Conduct research on system platforms, architecture designs, services, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the enterprise computing industry.
  •  Establish and implement policies, procedures and technologies to ensure security and integrity of the enterprise compute environment.
  • Develop and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the organization’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  •  Perform all work in a manner to ensure interoperability and maintain compliance of enterprise computing systems.
  •  Implement solutions and test performance, capacity and prepare and deliver performance statistics and reports.
  •  Respond to emergency system outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans, assisting other departments as required

  • Provides recommendations to senior or executive IT management regarding product/vendor selection, technology evolution, and design strategies.
  •  Effective collaboration skills to work with business partners, architects and technical peers to ensure reliable integration of systems and software for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Understand and abide by Incident, Problem and Change management processes and procedures.
  • Provide root cause analysis and develop and execute corrective action plans for resolution of complex technical issues related to platform and service performance disruptions
  • Develop effective disaster recovery plans and high availability design strategies, and document and test these capabilities on a recurring basis.
  • Interact with vendors, peers, and contractors to ensure secure, reliable systems implementations and upgrades are performed within project parameters.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance including on-call availability on a rotational basis, is an essential function of this job
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS or similar technical program or acceptable industry and work experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Nevada Gaming Control Board Registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • 5+ year’s demonstrable experience in the design, implementation, and support of infrastructure systems, applications, and related technologies.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft server operating systems, Active Directory, Linux platforms, VMware and related technologies.
  • Experience designing and implementing high availability solutions such as: clustering, data replication, dynamic resource allocation, and related procedures.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment (MICS, PCI, SOX).
  • Training and experience with ITSM practices.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration skills to mentor network, storage, database, telephony and other technical staff to ensure reliable integration of systems and processes.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • On-call availability on a rotational basis is a requirement of this role.
  • Flexibly to adapt to a changing environment while under pressure.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be a self-starter that is reliable, punctual, and consistent with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory as well as the complexities surrounding large scale, multi – forest deployments.
  • Expertise with Group Policy management for both Microsoft and Non-Microsoft servers and endpoints.
  • Extensive understanding of Kerberos, LDAP and PKI technologies.
  • Documented expertise with system and storage configuration, security principles, and maintenance best practices.
  • Advanced competence with monitoring tools, techniques, alerting and notification processes.
  • Advanced competence with monitoring tools, PowerShell and other scripting tools.
  • Expertise with fault isolation, testing procedures, and data mapping tools.
  • Current, relative industry certifications and continuing education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.



Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in racks, floors and ceilings.
  • Occasional requirement to work within the environmental conditions of a computer data center and the related noise, temperature and humidity exposures of those environments.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
