Director - Talent Management

The Director - Talent Management & Development will lead the strategic direction and execution of talent management and development programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the ongoing growth of our Team Members. This individual will be responsible for driving initiatives that support our Team Member Promise and attract, develop, retain, and maximize the potential of the workforce at all levels, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Reporting to the VP – Talent Management, this role will be responsible for the disciplines of performance management, succession planning, talent assessment, training, development planning and competency identification to develop Team Members to meet the current and future business needs of the company. This position is also responsible for leading the organization design and development activities that enhance the organization’s effectiveness.

Learning and Development

  • Lead the company training and development initiatives for skill development, compliance and self-paced learning leveraging currently available technology.
  • Conduct training needs assessments, recommending and implementing programs to support key skill areas. 
  • Develop a career development process that provides a framework for managers and employees to understand opportunities for career paths and plan for how to get there
  • Identify and develop company‐wide or individual learning initiatives that cost-effectively focus employee development toward achievement of both business and personal career goals.
  • Utilize data and metrics to track and measure the success of talent development initiatives and employee performance and regularly assess the effectiveness of programs and adjust as needed for improvement.

Leadership Development

  • Ensure an ongoing process exists which continuously enhances the knowledge and capability of key talent to enable managers to effectively lead the organization toward achievement of strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee and lead the Leadership Development curriculum and resources that align to the company strategy and initiatives to grow and develop leaders.
  • Conduct individual leadership, career and talent assessments as appropriate using a variety of tools.
  • Provide coaching and support to key leaders in the creation of robust development plans that meet succession and development needs.

Talent Review & Succession Planning

  • Develop and administer a process which focuses on building bench strength to meet current and future business needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to retain top talent and prepare them for advancement within the organization.
  • Serve as a resource to Talent Acquisition and business partners in the identification of internal candidates for critical roles.
  • Conduct individual leadership, career and talent assessments, as appropriate, using a variety of tools.

Performance Management

  • Oversee the performance management process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and employee development needs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on creating development-focused performance reviews and feedback loops.
  • Develop strategies to address performance issues and ensure employees have the tools and resources to improve.

Organizational Development and Design 

  • Identify and analyze organization effectiveness opportunities and recommend   initiatives that address global and regional opportunities based on business strategy.
  • Collaborate with change management team to ensure change management initiatives that increase engagement and to meet strategic business objectives are successfully executed to support evolution.
  • Partner with business leaders and HRBPs on organizational design structures that improve efficiency and effectiveness aligned with a more agile and innovative organization.
  • Evaluate and maintain leadership and technical competency models that facilitate the creation of clear job descriptions, to enable improved talent acquisition and career development.

Build & sustain strategic business relationships

  • Partner strategically with HR business partners and business leaders to understand key business objectives and consistently translate and prioritize these into the talent roadmap.
  • Collaborate in the execution of defined talent strategies and efforts to support the growth/strategy objectives of the company.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify skills and competencies needed to strengthen the organization and prepare it for future success.
  • Role model cross-functional leadership by collaborating with Stores, DC/ART and Support Center leaders to provide consultation and solutions for all things Talent Management & Development.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • BA/BS degree in related discipline
  • Masters/MBA (preferred) or equivalent experience in organizational development or behavior
  • Minimum 8 years professional HR, L&D, or Talent Management experience and current in best practices/contemporary approaches to adult learning and development

Minimum and Other Experience Required

  • Experience with managing Learning Management Systems
  • 5+ years directly-related talent management & leadership development experience implementing processes such as talent reviews, competency models, succession planning, leadership development, performance management, employee development, and career planning
  • Experience supporting and engaging with executive leadership and ability to effectively engage at all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading a multi-functional team
  • Certification in or skilled in various talent management tools focused on development, mentoring, training, etc.
  • Certification in competency modeling
