Engineering Director - CTOH

Tenneco Grass Lake, MI (Onsite) Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Director for CTOH North America Clean Air is responsible for leading engineering teams in North America, with support for NA out of other regions, to successfully design, develop, and launch a full range of exhaust products for original equipment customers in the Commercial Truck and Off-Highway markets. This responsibility starts with target business planning and continues through the entire life cycle of the product to ensure that products are in conformance with established program and customer objectives, project milestones, manufacturing feasibility, quality, and financial targets. This role also is responsible for ensuring team collaboration with Customer Business Units, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and other Tenneco functions to support matrix objectives that meet the needs of the business. This position also will collaborate with engineering functions in other technical centers to provide and receive support for product design and development as well as product and process standardization activities.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •     Ability to translate regional corporate goals into measurable objectives that link to all levels for the NA CA Engineering teams.
  •     Ensure the use of solid engineering practices and standardization of product using analytical tools, work instructions and standard processes and procedures.
  •     Drive alignment at all engineering functions to insure linkage between designs, releases, and efficient manufacturing processes.
  •  Ensure that products being developed meet customer expectations as measured through Requirements Management and that the products are being developed through solid engineering practices such as PDP, PFR&A, PDR, IDDR and support TenPLUS, Program Reviews and Executive Reviews.
  • Lead with a passion and sense of urgency to adjust to a changing automotive environment.
  • Use of the BOS methodology in the management of teams and processes. Drive efficiencies through a culture of establishing, measuring, and reviewing monthly metrics.
  • Create a culture of Continuous Improvement by defining meaningful CI projects and assure closure through the publication and training of Work Instructions, Standards, Templates, Checklists or Processes.
  • Address and close engineering issues quickly and effectively through a problem-solving approach (Ex: 8D).
  •     Maintain a robust working relationship with other Americas Functional Leaders and the Engineering leaders of other CA Engineering centers.
  •     Manage and maintain a strong customer relationship through regular visits or meetings to ensure understanding of the Voice of the Customer and provide updates and proposals to maintain and grow the CTOH business.
  •     Develop members of the NA Engineering department by coordinated partnership with the Global Engineering Tools and Process Team to establish the required skills necessary for excellence in exhaust system engineering and setting goals, training, standards, processes, and practices that support excellence.
  •     Take a visible leadership role in improving Employee Engagement for all teams within Grass Lake Engineering.
  •  Manage and assist in developing the Grass Lake CTOH Engineering AOP in support of Regional AOP needs.
  • Ensure utilization of regional specific tools to ensure product timing and attainment of functional objectives using tools such as Power BI, V&V workbooks, DVP&R and tolerance analysis.
  • Work to limit / reduce / eliminate outside testing wherever possible and support prototype builds and product launches as required as well as ED&T recovery of services. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  •     The ideal candidate is an experienced, process and systems focused engineering leader with proven track record of product development and the ability to bring creative solutions to solve complex problems.
  •     Technical depth and proficiency in the design, development, and releasing of products is necessary with proficiency in automotive and emission control technologies is a plus. 
  •      Must be able to work within a matrix organization and collaborate with other leaders within the organization.
  •      The ability to lead an organization to achieve multiple objectives and the flexibility to pivot the engineering organization and gain buy-in to new objectives if required.
  •     The candidate shall have strong written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable in leading from the front and be able to gain alignment with a diverse work force, both regionally and internationally.
  •      Basic understanding of the cultural differences between different global engineering centers and the ability to adjust communication and leadership style depending on the culture.
  •      Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes is essential.
  •      Ability to function and lead in a team environment and to effectively develop and motivate others.
  •      Position requires frequent exercise of quick decision making, problem solving, and facilitation skills and the ability to lead others in the same.
  •      The candidate must embrace and lead by the Tenneco Values.
  •      Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
  •      Master’s degree in Engineering or Business is a plus. 
  •      A minimum of 15 years of experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.

JOB LOCATION:

Grass Lake, Michigan, United States – On-site minimum 3 days or as defined by corporate requirements
