Technical Services Manager
Arconic is currently in search of Technical Services Manager to join our Kawneer team based in Harrisonburg, VA.

Job Summary:
As a Technical Services Manager at Kawneer, you will lead and inspire a team of talented Engineers, Drafters, and Takeoff Technicians to drive innovation and excellence in our architectural aluminum systems and products. The team you’ll oversee is composed of 25 skilled professionals with an objective to design, engineer, draft and perform material takeoffs for architectural aluminum façade applications.
Under the general direction of the Commercial Business Manager, your role will be pivotal in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the combined groups to ensure necessary planning, execution, quality, and the successful completion of projects are met by timeline objectives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, develop strategies, and implement initiatives that align with Kawneer’s commitment to sustainable and resilient building solutions.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management: Mentor and guide a team of Engineers, Drafters, and Takeoff Technicians, provide performance feedback and foster a culture of continuous improvement to develop talent
- Including having strong leadership experience and knowledge to lead a diverse team, make joint decisions on the market with other leaders and satisfy customer needs
- Project Oversight: Plan and execute projects, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and timeline objectives

Strategic Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, objectives, and requirements
- The Technical Services Manager, as a member of the Harrisonburg Commercial Lead Team, will be responsible for developing talent within the organization
- Technical Review: Review and approve engineering designs, technical documentation, and project plans

Resource Management: Manage resource allocation, including staffing and budgeting
- Be responsible to work and coordinate efforts and services with all drafting and engineering processes across North America.
- Compliance Safety: Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control processes.

Communication: Communicate (verbal and written) with customers, vendors, and internal teams to provide project updates and address concerns
- Align with the Commercial Business Manager, Order Pursuit Manager, and Major Projects Manager to meet competitive and market needs to grow the business. This will be achieved with a strong understanding of the market and customer competitive needs.
- Build strong coordination and relationships with vendors that provide both products and services.
In this role, you will:
- Review complex projects at estimate stage to determine if they fit the current flow path
- Drive work center accountability with daily management theory to meet the customer schedule dates (OTIF) and target quality (FTQ)
- Manage work center labor efficiencies and cost absorption
- Collect metric data that support the customer service
- Identify and practical problem solve field claim issues before receiving back charge feedback
- Manage feedback system and quality misses to determine how to drive towards a standardized method
- Understand and mentor work center on current building codes, fastener design, engineering methods, product application and takeoff tools
- Attend review meetings with customers to develop new product application
- Manage outsource vendors and drive cost lower while maintaining target quality and on-time submittal release
- Identify changes in product market to determine if new processes are required
- Manage drafting, custom die, and revision standards
- Cover capacity gaps by working in the system as needed
- Possess strong mathematical skills required to conduct structural analysis
Also note:
- Less than 10% travel requirement
You have: (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural, or related field) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience with AutoCAD/Revit/Inventor/SolidWorks software
- And/or minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Fenestration Industry
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and deliver results on time
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural, or related field) from an accredited institution.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or relevant certifications
- Possess supervisory experience leading multiple and cross functional teams at multiple sites:
- Including experience with performance management, training, hiring, providing direction/goals, relationship management, issue management, termination, etc.
- Diverse experience in technical services to include Drafting, Take-Off, Estimating, and performing structural engineering calculations.
- Strong technical knowledge in architectural aluminum systems and products
- 3+ Years of experience with curtain wall / window wall / unitized curtain wall projects
Work Setting & Location:
- This position will operate in person in a professional office environment in Harrisonburg, VA
