Derivative Investment Analyst

Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Portfolio Manager, the majority of the selected candidate's responsibility will be to assist in the activities, processes, and systems related to the risk management hedging process and solutions business. The candidate will also operate in a backup role for the Sr. Investment/Derivative Analyst, with respect to the hedging process.

The incumbent will work closely with our hedging platform and reporting needs. This position will evolve into the derivative group’s subject matter expert for in house systems, improving processes and spreadsheets to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the hedging process.

The position will also assist in other miscellaneous derivative activities including downstream processes, derivative pricing, derivative payment settlements, and asset liability management related activities. Heightened familiarity with equity and fixed income derivative related trends, issues, and developments will be obtained while working in this position.

Accountabilities:

  • Assists portfolio management in a wide variety of tasks including support of portfolio analytical systems, generation of portfolio management reports to assist in trading activities, and providing data and analytical support to assist in the portfolio management process
  • Assists with building, refining and improving analytics and back testing tools and with data mining and data trend analysis
  • Helps with the booking and modeling of assets and liabilities accurately in the system.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned, i.e., spreadsheet and database reports. A significant amount of work using high-level spreadsheet functionality is required.
  • Serves as derivative systems expert to help achieve more efficient utilization of the system with respect to all derivative activities.
  • Helps publish the regular daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as adhoc reports, supports data requests and report verification as needed by the organization.
  • Assists in the management of our derivative assets by working with the derivatives manager to implement and administer the investment strategy within policy guidelines.
  • Assists with downstream derivatives processes as needed


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Familiarity with the markets and an understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investments, and insurance principles and practices.
  • Pursuit of CFA or FRM is preferred
  • The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, well-organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, and be able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting such as Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel and Access), as well as other financial and statistical software packages. Ability to code and use AI for tool building and analysis would be a plus
  • Familiarity with derivative transactions
  • Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or related field, and 3 years of experience, or Masters in related area with 1 year of experience.
