Mission / Purpose of the position
- Independent design of the piston, considering mechanical strength, manufacturability, and costs.
- Independent design of the tool, considering service life, manufacturability, and costs.
- Independent design of piston test bench equipment and piston assembly part drawings.
Main Tasks
The task includes the creation of complex NC programs for complete tool processing + milling instructions (national / international)
Furthermore, the creation of complex 5-axis programs in steel and graphite (national / international)
Consultation with Application Engineer, Analysis and production regarding piston design (national/international)
Casting coordination with other production sites with regard to die design
Development of constructive solutions as well as further development and optimization of existing designs
Creation of piston assembly part drawings (retaining rings, piston pins, ring carriers, salt rings, etc.) according to the recommendations of application engineering.
Independent design of piston test equipment (temperature measuring pistons, eddy current self-made probes and models for oil jet measurement, etc.).
Independent design of clamping devices for production
Independent design and development of constructive solutions with the help of additive manufacturing
Detailed Job description
Compliance with internal standards or DIN/ISO norms
Compliance with customer-specific requirements (GD&T tolerances, customer data quality, etc.)
Preparation, if necessary, Execution of data transfers to the customer, taking into account the customer's requirements
The processing and modifications, as well as the creation of schedules and implementation plans, due to different designs in the planning of the project schedule, require close coordination with other departments
Project coordination or assistance for other production sites / suppliers
Creation of production and tool drawings
Supervision of toolmaking up to tool completion
Performing tolerance assessments
Design of eddy current probes in coordination with Technology and external manufacturers
Entering the various tool components in SAP
Creation of digital data for the metrology center
Creating Skirt Profile Drawings with ADC
Entry of all product documentation (e.g. CAD data) into Windchill
Implementation of project documentation in RES
Europe-wide entry of data into the SAP system for raw pistons, cast parts, finished pistons, piston pins, retaining rings, piston rings German / English
Advanced die Design with the help of additive manufacturing
Optimization and support of additive manufacturing technology
Work equipment

MS Office Applications
IT systems (SAP, ADC, Windchill)
Education: Completed mechanical engineering studies; more than 3 years’ work experience
Additional knowledge/training
- Courses in GD&T tolerances.
- Knowledge of CAD (Creo, Catia V5 and V6 or Siemens NX), hyper Mill, ADC, SAP
- Advanced knowledge of power cylinder systems
- Good knowledge of piston technology and tolerances
- In-depth knowledge of tool design and toolmaking
- Very good written and spoken English skills.
- IT– skills in Lotus Notes, MS Office and MS Windows
