Derivative Operations Business Analyst

Purpose:

The Derivative Operations team is responsible for managing all operational aspects of Athene's derivative investment and hedging strategy.

As a critical member of this team, the Business Analyst will provide leadership, oversight, and analysis for a dynamic mix of projects, programs, and initiatives; from process improvement and transformation to new product onboarding, regulatory compliance, and business process re-engineering.

The Business Analyst will also work closely with multiple stakeholders across the organization to define the objectives, scope, and requirements for efforts to improve systems and processes, optimize operations, add scale through technology and automation, and support Business-As-Usual (BAU) system updates. This position will report to the Senior Product Manager, Derivative Operations.

Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with Portfolio Management, Derivative Trading, Legal, Treasury, Risk, IT, and Investment Accounting to solve novel problems arising from a dynamic business environment, and ensure the systems and processes utilized by the Derivative Operations Team remain in line industry best-practices. 

  • Understand, translate, and document business requirements, working with Product Owners/Managers, developers, and business users to prioritize features for implementation and ensure use cases and technical requirements are fully understood. 

  • Work with stakeholders to gather and document requirements for data projects, developing processes to support periodic and ad-hoc reporting requirements 

  • Engage with stakeholders across multiple departments to align target operating models, and ensure participation of all impacted groups 

  • Analyze business processes, seeking out and executing on opportunities for improvement through data driven insights. 

  • Develop specialized processes for ad-hoc reporting,  

  • Support project management efforts, assisting with planning, tracking of deliverables, and coordination across cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution of project objectives. 

  • Support product oversight for a suite of new and existing projects, programs, and initiatives; working with business partners to ensure the organization’s best interests are well-represented during all stages of product and strategy development, planning, and execution. 

  • Actively participate in operational improvement and optimization efforts, using data to drive actions that translate into a scalable positive impact across risk management and operations; developing a vision for improvement, defining and documenting business cases, and aiding in the design and launch of new processes, products, and systems. 

  • Build subject-matter expertise related to derivatives, and all post-execution processes and systems related to derivatives at Athene, with a view of becoming a key resource for information and leadership. 

  • Build and maintain a strong awareness of ISDA standards, industry regulations, and best practices with regard to middle-office operations processes, systems, and data flows. 

  • Work with in-house technology teams, in an Agile methodology, to deliver new or enhanced system capabilities. 

  • Review technology solution providers, analyzing key capabilities and material contract data for suitability across risk management and operations. 

  • Build and maintain documentation, process maps, and visual aids for a suite of programs and projects, as well as communicate key updates, metrics, and issues across relevant stakeholders. 


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3+ years experience as a BA, BSA or PM/PO handling multiple projects and initiatives

  • 2+ years of financial services experience preferred

  • Expertise in SQL 

  • Knowledge of and prior experience with Derivative post-trade workflows 

  • Experience in Investment Operations, Product Management, Business Analysis, or Client Management 

  • Experience with purchased investment and accounting systems preferred (i.e., PFI/PAM, BlackRock Aladdin, Calypso, FIS Apex, ThinkFolio, Sophis/FusionInvest) 

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence without authority across both front-line team members and senior executives 

  • Demonstrably strong strategic awareness and judgement 

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
