Senior Process Control Engineering Specialist
Arconic is currently in search of a Senior Process Control Engineering Specialist to join our Manufacturing Technology Engineering Team based out of Davenport, IA, Alcoa, TN, Lancaster, PA, or another agreeable location.

Position Description:
Arconic has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Process Control Engineering Specialist to work with Arconic’s Global Rolled Products and Extrusions (GRPE) Manufacturing Technology group. The primary purpose of this role is to lead initiatives to develop and deploy advanced control and monitoring technology to achieve significant improvements in manufacturing process capability and performance. This is to be accomplished by: Developing innovative solutions for advanced control strategies (including model-based solutions) to improve process yield, productivity, and quality; Providing designs for prototype systems, conducting evaluation trials, and commissioning systems; and Developing software to implement process model and control technology for off-line process analysis tools and on-line manufacturing systems. Additional responsibilities include monitoring emerging and existing technology and recommending R&D options to Arconic’s plants. The incumbent will be required to act with a high degree of autonomy in the performance of assignments.
Primary responsibilities:
- Is recognized as an expert and advisor within the organization and has in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in process control engineering applied to Arconic’s core processes (Rolling, Casting, Machining) and broad knowledge of other related disciplines – such as process and flowpath optimization, data systems and analytics – that complement the process control capability.
- Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges; recommends process improvements.
- Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
- Contributes to the development of functional strategy in Arconic’s Process Control space
- Leads teams or projects with broad visibility to achieve milestones and objectives
- Provides direct input, and may own, strategic technical decisions related to implementation of Process Control functionality on Arconic’s core processes
- Typically operates with broad latitude in a complex environment
- Arconic-wide resource - Serves as a consultant on technical issues
- Provides corporate technical training to develop newer technical contributors
- The position requires travel, 25-50% of the time. Some of the travel may be international with the majority being in North America.
- While this role will have global responsibility, the home location will be at our location in Davenport, IA, Alcoa, TN, Lancaster, PA, or another agreeable location.
Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in engineering or physics with 5 years of industrial experience implementing Level II control systems on industrial processes, applying mathematical process models to manufacturing operations, or installing process monitoring applications.
- Demonstrated capability to lead projects of significant scope and technical complexity.
- Strong programming skills: C, C++, MATLAB.
- Experience with software development methodology and ability to develop software for real-time process control system environments.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. degree or higher in engineering with 7 years of industrial experience implementing Level II control systems on industrial processes, applying mathematical process models to manufacturing operations, or installing process monitoring applications.
- Ability to apply modeling and mathematical principes to simulation and flowpath and process optimization solutions
- Demonstrated capability to lead projects of significant scope and technical complexity.
- Experience with software development methodology and ability to develop software for real-time process control system environments.
