Manufacturing Engineer

Summary

This position is responsible for developing, troubleshooting and improving progressive stamping dies as well as managing tool and die makers.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, Develop and launch new stamping projects.
  • Work with team members on the floor to trouble shoot and repair stamping/tooling issues.
  • Review current tooling and work to improve efficiency on process.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare specifications, RFQs, design approvals and run-offs for new dies as needed
  • Lead technical troubleshooting of metal stamping dies and related production equipment in a dynamic manufacturing facility
  • Design modifications and upgrades on existing dies and details
  • Work with others and lead efforts on stamping department improvements in safety, quality, productivity and cost reductions, and provide subject matter support in all areas of plant as needed
  • Work with machine builders on new and/or rebuilt equipment (design recommendations)
  • Prioritize, direct and supervise the work of skilled tradesmen in on-site Tool Room to ensure tooling is made, modified and/or repaired efficiently, on-time and with high quality
  • Organize and stock the Tool Room, spare parts and raw materials to support efficient and timely repairs of dies, injection molds, general tooling and machine components
  • Prepare and present management reports and analyze department and tooling performance
  • Coordinate with the organization’s internal teams to improve product quality and meet customer requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to understand technical operating, service or repair manuals
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of gages such as dial calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees in a professional manner
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to manage and lead a team in a dynamic, high-volume manufacturing facility
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately

Work & Education Requirements:

  • Technical Degree and/or relevant skilled trades certification preferred.  Ten years’ experience and/or combination of related military service will be considered
  • Progressive and transfer die troubleshooting and repair skills with training and experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of operation of all standard Tool Room equipment and understanding of best practices in use of equipment to produce and modify details
  • Extensive knowledge of die protection sensors, related devices and other methods to protect quality of parts produced and longevity of tooling
  • Experience with the operations, troubleshooting, maintenance and rebuilding of mechanical power presses, including control systems, lubrication and safety devices is desirable
  • Knowledge of steel fabrications, welding and robotics is helpful
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations in working with mechanical power presses, stock straighteners, feeders and related equipment, industrial maintenance and electricity, all standard tool room equipment, including welders
