Operations Manager

Arconic Davenport, IA (Onsite) Full-Time

The Operations Manager will report to the Vice President of Operations at Arconic’s Davenport facility. The position is responsible for coordinating and optimizing parts and departments of operations within our facility (casting through shipping aluminum). This includes direct supervision of several Lead Area Managers and indirect supervision of hundreds of hourly and salaried employees. The operational departments directly supervise their own safety, maintenance, engineering, and metallurgy resources.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • This is the key role in the organization that provides leadership as well as an interface to translate objectives between upper management and the shop floor. 
    • The target is to engage people to build business owners at all levels of the organization (manager, superintendent, supervisor, crews). 
    • Ability to translate the big picture into actions that are meaningful at the floor level
    • Data driven approach. This individual needs to have some edge and be willing to defend decisions and needs with data. 
    • Measure results and provide feedback.
    • Requires focus on disciplined execution with a bias for Operational Excellence 
    • Daily continuous improvement mindset and implementation
    • Determine the key priorities and focus areas for operations on a weekly basis.
    • Will need understanding of the difference between stability and improvement and how to problem solve each of these.
    • Practical application of Theory of Constraints
  • Communicate up and down the organization in language that is appropriate to the level.
  • Effectively interface with staff organizations (e.g. finance, quality, SCM, EHS) – understand the needs, translate needs into actions and communicate back what has been accomplished.
  • Develop long term/strategic/CAPEX plans 
  • Work closely with plant manager, supply chain, and finance to develop strategic plan for operations, and develop manufacturing plans to achieve capacity increases to meet this plan.
  • Practical application of S&OP cycle with linkage to improvements 
  • Implement or improve standards and processes that provides a system that shows KPIs with visibility to shop floor through management. 

 

Competencies:

  1. Deliver short term, tactical results aligned with longer term strategic goals
  2. Knowledge of aluminum manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, and flow paths for all plant products. 
  3. Experience working with a large union body 
  4. Safety, engagement, and Lean Manufacturing 
  5. Talent management and development at all levels
  6. Previous experience in advanced manufacturing  systems: identifying help chains, supply chain basics, Sales and Operations Process (S&OP), business reviews
  7. Understand how Operations impacts Financial metrics. Understand, develop and utilize operational levers to improve financials as well have the ability to accurately forecast the impact (positive and negative) of operational performance to the bottom line on a weekly and monthly basis.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 12 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience with both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Minimum of five years' experience working with external customers.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Advanced degree in Engineering
  • Casting and Hot Rolling experience
  • S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning) Systems experience
