Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process trillions of data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world.

As a Database Engineer, you will have primary responsibility for managing and providing on-call support for Oracle and MySQL databases. You'll collaborate with a distributed team of DBEs to oversee critical enterprise database systems that facilitate data processing for both internal and client-facing applications. Your role demands effective communication with stakeholders to ensure high availability, optimal configuration, and efficient management of these database platforms, crucial for supporting production systems. This challenging position requires strong technical leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to solve complex problems.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage database platforms across various lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production, in both on-premises and AWS/GCP environments.

  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, ensuring high performance, availability, and security through system health and performance monitoring.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues promptly, providing end-to-end problem resolution.

  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities outside normal business hours.

  • Automate database administration tasks like database creation and migration.

  • Plan, build, deploy, and maintain enterprise OLTP and OLAP-based EDW platforms and services, including proactive monitoring, data analysis, and reporting.

  • Perform proactive and reactive performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for database-related issues affecting critical business operations.

  • Identify root causes of complex problems and develop practical solutions based on comprehensive evaluation.

  • Create and manage user accounts as required.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for databases and systems.

  • Collaborate with end-users for special requests and new setups.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to colleagues as necessary.

  • Network with senior internal and external stakeholders to address ongoing challenges in your area of expertise.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing Oracle and MySQL databases.

  • Strong experience with AWS, including EC2 and RDS administration.

  • Solid understanding of database architecture, including high availability, recovery, and security principles.

  • Previous experience managing OLTP, OLAP, and data warehouse systems.

  • Proficiency in shell scripting and/or programming languages such as Ruby or Python for automating cloud infrastructure tasks.

  • Openness to learning and supporting additional database platforms like Vertica and PostgreSQL.

  • Familiarity with DevOps orchestration and configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet, Docker, Jenkins, Ansible, JIRA, and GitHub.

  • Experience with performance tuning, optimization, and native monitoring tools.

  • Knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery models.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus.

  • Understanding of information security standards and best practices for databases.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a positive attitude and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and willingness to learn new database technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Basic system administration skills in Linux.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred.
