VP - Controller
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities, providing insights into business performance and projections.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor changes in financial regulations, ensuring the company’s policies and procedures align with new laws and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage the preparation of corporate tax filings.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and development of accounting staff to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
Financial Strategy & Analysis:
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop financial strategies that support business objectives and growth plans.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to guide decision-making, including profitability analysis, cost management, and capital expenditure decisions.
- Evaluate and recommend financial systems improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Systems & Process Optimization:
- Lead initiatives to optimize accounting processes and systems, ensuring scalability and efficiency in financial operations.
- Drive the implementation of financial technologies and ERP systems to streamline operations and improve data integrity.
- Work with IT and other departments to ensure integration between accounting and other operational systems.
External Relations & Reporting:
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party stakeholders.
- Manage the annual audit process, ensuring all necessary documentation and financial records are provided.
- Ensure the organization meets all reporting requirements for external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, investors, and creditors.
Compliance:
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Minimum Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
Minimum Type of Experience Required
- 12+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
- 8+ years in a leadership role within a retail or consumer goods environment.
- Proficiency with multiple Financial and ERP systems and cloud-based programs.
- Proficiency in financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
Other
- Strong analytic, problem-solving and quantitative skills; demonstrated ability to not only deliver analysis, but to own the analytic approach and process, derive insights and make strategic business recommendations
- Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams; strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with senior leadership.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, retail accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls. Familiarity with industry-specific financial processes and retail-specific metrics is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to identify issues, think critically, and recommend solutions to complex accounting and financial challenges.
Preferred Education
- MBA or other advanced financial certification.
