Wastewater Treatment Operator

Arconic Visalia, CA (Onsite) Full-Time

Arconic is currently in search of Wastewater Pretreatment Operator to join our Kawneer Team in Visalia.   This Position is responsible to operate wastewater and pretreatment equipment, sludge processing and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plant to control the processing of wastewater by performing the duties listed below. 

The base wage for this role is $24. The base wage is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Adhere to all Arconic rules and regulations
  • Operate compute and computer programs
  • Operates wastewater processes with minimal supervision
  • Observes variations in the wastewater treatment and pretreatment operating systems
  • Interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine chemical load requirements.
  • Starts and stops pumps
  • Operates valves to control flow of paint process water through filtering, settling and sludge press processes
  • Monitors and tests water to control discharge process water as prescribe by state, local and facility protocols
  • Work with the facility staff to prepare water samples for lab analysis in accordance with established protocols
  • Work with the facility staff to prepare chrome coating weight samples for lab analysis in accordance with established protocols
  • Able to follow work instructions, permit rules and all regulations pertaining to the wastewater process operation
  • Assist with the installation of wastewater equipment and instrumentation including calibration and troubleshooting. 
    • Troubleshooting wastewater and pretreatment system problems and adjusting the system to maintain process perimeters as required by state, local and facility requirements
  • Actively participate in the Arconic Confined Space Team
  • Perform some minor maintenance and repairs on equipment, probes and pumps
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs and procedures for the wastewater and pretreatment process, as well as the packaging, treating, storing, transporting and disposal of hazardous wastes
  • Maintain DOT and hazardous waste training per local and state requirements
  • Assist in hazardous waste shipments, labeling and storage.
  • Operates and maintains the facilities fixed water monitoring collection station
  • Perform all daily, weekly, and monthly inspection of burns, tanks and equipment
  • Maintain wastewater treatment records in accordance with federal, state and local requirements as well as Arconic protocols
  • Operate the pretreatment process equipment as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Five years wastewater work experience is preferred
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and comprehends documents in English such as, operating and maintenance instructions, safety rules and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read and write routine or complex reports, protocols and correspondents
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, supervisors and inspectors
  • Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide complex numbers
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with and respond to major problems in a standard or emergency work situation
  • Ability to obtain an mobile equipment license, overhead crane certification, lock out/tag out certification, fall or harness protection certification, and respirator certification

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to repetitively lift up to 40 pounds or 1/3 of your body weight
  • Able to work 12 hour days
  • Able to wear required PPE 
  • Able to bend and twist repetitively
