Tool & Die Tech

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyzes a variety of specifications, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to repair cutting tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or machinists’ hand tools, applying knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, and layout, machining and assembly procedures:  Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, or tool description, and plans sequence of operations.  Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, and grinder, to machine parts to specifications and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.  Positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable, using devises such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.  Fits and assembles parts into assemblies or mechanisms using hand tools.  Verifies dimension and alignment, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks.  Examines standard tools and modifies tools as required.  Develops specifications from general descriptions and draws or sketches tool using drafting tools or computer and software programs.

This description is not all encompassing.  The successful candidate may perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• H.S. Diploma, or GED.

• Completion of a 5 year/8,000 hour approved Tool & Die Apprenticeship program, or 5 years’ experience as Tool & Die Maker.

• Ability to lift 35lbs. with proper lifting technique, occasional lifting to 50 lbs.
