Job Title: Product Engineer, Ignition Spark Plug

Location: Skokie, IL

Work Arrangement: ON-SITE

This position will report within the DRiV business group. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Product Engineer is responsible for delivering a part to the DRiV organization per engineering/marketing requirements and providing engineering support to grow the business on a global basis which includes global travel to support the application development process as necessary.  Includes but not limited to the following:

  • New Product Development Support/NPI
  • Reverse engineering of products
  • Part Design and Validation
  • Ability to understand ISO test standards
  • Development of quality/inspection requirements for DV/PV samples along with PPAP for external suppliers
  • Final Part Inspection and Approval via suppliers PPAP documents and Product Testing/Validation
  • Product Data Management in FileMaker Pro – All Key Engineering data; prints, test validation, part approvals and key project information.
  • Print Management in Teamcenter
  • Purchasing Support for purchased parts and resource projects
  • Marketing Support for: NPI’s, Technical Presentations, Customer Support, Warranty Coordination with Suppliers, Features and Benefits and Technical data for brand/packaging.
  • Innovation and Problem Resolution

Minimum Requirements:

Education:  

  • Engineering Degree preferably BSME or BSEE

Experience:

  • 0-2 years’ experience

Skills:

  • Specific proficiency levels for each job skill required are defined in the Skills Requirement Checklist for this job title.
  • Manage limited amount of new spark plug applications based on skill level and experience.
  • Interface with marketing, purchasing, sales and relevant teams to support the product line.
  • Possess the necessary skills to understand fit, form and function of spark plugs
  • Possess basic knowledge of Robust Design principles including Quality History, FMEA and Validation Test Plan development.
  • Possess basic knowledge of Supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Possess the basic skills for design/quality measurement systems.
  • Possess basic project management skills.
  • Microsoft Office Tool knowledge and computer proficiency.
  • Spark Plug sample approvals based on print and technical specifications
  • Evaluate supplier test results and publish final test reports to the organization
  • Support and resolve engineering quality issues as required
  • Evaluate returned product for failure mode and work with suppliers and quality on corrective action to resolve
  • Work with suppliers to assure ability to manufacture designs and participates in feasibility reviews with suppliers
  • Develop a working knowledge of materials used in spark plugs and understand basic design principles.
  • Deliver test requirements to suppliers (OE vs. Aftermarket)
  • Interface with the suppliers as required for design and validation.
  • Develop basic ignition spark plug knowledge (fit, form and function)
  • Develop basic knowledge of Re-Engineering design tools used with spark plugs.
