Product Engineering Project Manager

Tenneco Southfield, MI (Onsite) Full-Time

Tenneco is looking for an experienced, innovative, and creative Product Engineering Project Manager to support the execution of principal projects for North America within the DRiV business group. Are you passionate about the Automotive Aftermarket and have an entrepreneurial spirit? This role is inherently cross-functional — you will work closely with Purchasing, Suppliers, Operations, Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Marketing, Product Management and Executive Leadership to help execute DRiV’s principal projects in North America. This job will require exceptional communication skills and having the ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment with all levels of leadership, and exercise sound judgment where clear guidelines may not exist.

The ideal candidate must have a high degree of autonomy with the ability to navigate ambiguous problems, develop solutions, and drive programs forward with minimal guidance. This individual must be able to think strategically and will be proficient at influencing cross-functionally and deliver strong results. This individual must have the ability to dive deep in understanding the product and the competitive landscape and build best-in-class scalable products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates high quality timing plans with the project teams with buy in from all functional areas supporting all given project goals.
  • Verifies availability of standardized processes and requirements, and clearly communicate to the project teams and supports in tracking major milestones from the standardized process using Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate). 
  • Defines measurable project objectives and project teams to help achieve the given project goals.
  • Manages the project teams to help execute the project plan with verified standardize processes and requirements achieving all project objectives from concept to launch. 
  • Ensures the effectiveness of the project team meetings and supplier meetings.  Ensures effective communication with the project team.  Acts as the central communication point for their programs.
  • Ensures a high level of integration and collaboration as well as, alignment with the program members in Purchasing, Suppliers, Operations, and Supply Chain. 
  • Ensures effective and timely scope management with emphasis on following industry standard change management methodology.
  • Identifies project risks early, develops and executes mitigation strategies.  Escalates risk with mitigation strategies to the leadership team in a timely fashion.
  • Meets 0 days late for all Gates.  Meets all project objectives on time with high quality products.
  • Ensures all program / project objectives and budgets are met.
  • Visits critical suppliers and / or Tenneco plant at appropriate points in the program with the members of their Program Teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required, Masters’ degree preferred.

Experience: 5 years of experience working in the automotive aftermarket engineering; 5 years of experience in project management.

Skills

  • Must have knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and experience in creating Product requirements, DFMEA, DVP.
  • Knowledge of using Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) preferred.
  • Strong analytic capabilities with a track record of using data and analytics to accelerate program / project development.
  • Proven knowledge of program management methodology, tools and techniques.
  • Managed multiple product development programs through to launch with ownership of budget / cost / timing.
  • Global program experience as either a lead or member of the team.
  • Must possess (1) solid communication skills (2) ability to multi-task (3) solid decision-making skills.
  • Strong team player with ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent PC skills (spreadsheets, etc.) required.
  • Excellent communication skills required. Fluent in English, multiple languages a plus.
  • Technical familiarity with a range of materials and manufacturing processes desired.
  • Travel domestic and international up to 15%.
