About Us
We are seeking a talented Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team and help modernize our software stack. A successful candidate will possess strong backend development skills, a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions, and a drive to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining excellent product performance. You will play a key role in rebuilding our WordPress backend in AWS and integrating content systems with the rest of our products.Who You Are

Responsibilities

• Develop and architect backend systems, including a self-managed, cloud-hosted WordPress CMS.
• Manage deployment engineering, monitoring, and cloud resources for backend systems, including databases.
• Integrate with CDNs and other edge technologies provided by Yahoo.
• Collaborate with product and design teams on new features and enhancements.
• Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies with the product manager.
• Handle on-call responsibilities to maintain high uptime for backend systems.
• Assist in interviewing and onboarding engineers for a colocated team.
• Become self-sufficient and capable of delivering software solutions autonomously when needed.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7-10+ years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in PHP and at least one other strictly typed language (e.g., Java, TypeScript, Scala).
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres.
• Familiarity with consuming RESTful, GraphQL, or equivalent APIs for user-facing applications.
• Experience collaborating with frontend engineers (preferred but not required).
• Knowledge of WordPress CMS and backend systems (preferred but not required).
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, code structure, and debugging tools.
• Excellent team player, with a willingness to consider differing opinions and provide thoughtful reasoning for your perspectives.
• Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate team and project goals.
