ABOUT THE JOB - PURCHASING MANAGER

Location:  Houston, Westplain Campus

Work Environment: Monday – Friday

Work Schedule/Hours:  Normal Business Hours

Pay Range:  120 - 130k based on experience

Job Summary

As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for developing a supply chain strategy and efficiently manage the execution of all procurement activities in support of our Houston, TX operations.  This role will report to the Director of Sourcing & Procurement. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams and must enjoy the challenges of working in a highly engineered product environment.  As Purchasing Manager, you will lead a team and be accountable for managing the end-to-end procurement-to-pay process.  Building effective working relationships with stakeholders is a key element to success in the role, and you will be charged with managing supplier relations while setting clear expectations and providing timely feedback for both suppliers and the purchasing team.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of a team of buyers responsible for purchasing goods and services in support of the Celeros valves & S&N pumps product lines. Either through your own efforts or those of your team, you will:

  • At all times be a strong and vocal advocate and actor for maintaining a healthy and safe work environment for you and all those around you.
  • Exhibit leadership values consistent with Celeros FT norms and expectations.
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Celeros FT leadership, peers and purchasing team members.
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring that the buyers are meeting their personal performance goals and standard while meeting team and individual goals for supplier quality, fulfillment, cost and cash management.
  • Locate materials, equipment and suppliers capable of providing goods and services that meet Celeros FT’s requirements.
  • Be responsive to the needs of colleagues in all functions, including manufacturing, materials management, planning, engineering, projects, and finance, while working collaboratively to achieve overall business objectives.
  • Assure effective coordination within the purchasing team, and between the purchasing team and the quality, materials management, planning, and finance teams.
  • Develop sourcing strategies with consideration to ongoing cost reduction, while projecting outcomes and tracking results.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing and company rules and policies.
  • Resolve supplier or contractor grievances and potential Celeros FT claims against suppliers.
  • Monitor, analyse and report key supply chain performance metrics including sourcing savings, DPO, supplier delivery, inventory turns, quality, etc. for continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the corporate supply chain team on key initiatives like sourcing savings projects, supplier lead time improvement programs, improvements to supplier payment terms, inventory optimization programs, and solutions to the supplier-related cost of poor quality.
  • Maintain, improve, and implement purchasing instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Propose improvements to the current purchasing system and processes that will improve efficiency, cost, and quality.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of purchasing, sourcing, supplier performance management, supply chain and inventory strategies and practices.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Leadership skills with ability to motivate oneself and foster individual professional development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including active listening, identifying the issue, and driving solutions.
  • Highly results driven with the ability to demonstrate supplier improvement and implement cost reduction programs.
  • Ability to take an organized approach, set priorities, identify risks and opportunities, manage resources, milestones, and costs.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal and intercultural sensitivity with the ability to work with suppliers across the globe.
  • Experience working with a global supply base and ability to maintain relationship and communication with suppliers in low-cost countries.
  • General working knowledge of SAP purchasing modules is preferred, but demonstrated competence with purchasing modules in alternate ERP systems is acceptable.
  • Technical - ability to read drawings would be an asset.
  • Ability to travel ~10% of the time.

 

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, manufacturing management or a related field preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-to-10 years of experience in supply chain or purchasing management with demonstrated experience in cost reduction, domestically and internationally.
  • Experience leading and coaching a team of buyers with using a results-driven, servant leader approach.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic sourcing.
  • Manufacturing experience including experience with castings from a supply chain perspective preferred.
  • CPSM, CPPM or APICS certification is helpful but not required.
  • Oil and gas industry experience is preferred but not required.
