Extrusion Press Operator
Arconic is currently in search of Extrusion Press Operator to join our Building and Construction Team in Springdale, Arkansas.

JOB DUTIES:
- Develops order sequence within SAI system and validates profile recipe including billet length;
- Shear billet and index into charger ensuring butt is coated with carbon soot or boron;
- Load billet and break through die utilizing bomb blanket with camera attachment;
- Extrude billet setting proper ram speed and pressures within SAI recipe system while maintaining appropriate quality;
- Position pegs and blocks to ensure proper dimensions, contours and shapes;
- Report production into JDE / KPMS system;
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor;
- Reports to the shift foreman, considered to be the crew leader, and conducts himself or herself accordingly;
- Always at the press on or before the starting time;
- Checks with the off-going operator for any equipment problems or pertinent information when taking over the press;
- Responsible for press; reports any unsafe mechanical or electrical problems to shift lead or to maintenance craft;
- Checks the following: Billet heater temperature, Container temperature, Cradle alignment, Die slide alignment, Press oil temperature, Die oven temperature, Condition of dummy block;
- Checks on how many charges are left to run on the die and sees if tooling is in line for the next die;
- Checks for die plugs. If there are die plugs, puts another die in with same size billets or a die with short cuts, and keeps running;
- Checks at the end of the charge to see if the butt has sheared from the die and are clear of container before starting the next push;
- Watches on billet heater for possible overheating and/or melting;
- Adjusts the speed of the flying cut off saw to accommodate extrusion speed;
- Assists the lead out man on the die changes; double checks the tooling to insure proper setup. Sets up in advance of the last charge on die currently being run such as the following: Backer, Bolster, Canister;
- Checks to see if the can is out before moving the die slide;
- Checks the extrusion occasionally and reports any defects or discrepancies as necessary to the QA;
- Checks the amount of end scrap and number of cuts and adjusts butt occasionally to the end scrap;
- Runs the necessary charges to prevent shortage, if he or she knows there is some bad metal on the table. He or she tells the foreman of the necessary changes;
- Observes the special notes on the lot tickets (follows up accordingly);
- Responsible for the work area and keeps the work area clean and orderly always.
The employee is required to follow all Health & Safety requirements listed in the applicable procedure & work instructions.
Qualification Requirements:
- Must be able to learn basic computer skills;
- Must pass physical if required to operate mule or crane;
- Must have completed position orientation in:
- 0901011 Saw Helper \\ Tailstock operators 0901013 Saw operators
- 0901012 Headstock operators 0901014 Setup
- Overtime is required if deemed necessary by management.
- Must be able to learn basic computer skills;
- Overtime is required if deemed necessary by management.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
