Principal Network Operations Engineer

What You Will Do In This Role:
- Network Architecture & Design: Help lead the design and deployment of complex network solutions, ensuring scalability, security and high availability.
- Operational Management: Help drive the day-to-day operations of Shutterfly’s global network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, uptime and Incident Response.
- Security: Collaborate with security teams to enforce and enhance network security protocols, including ZTNA, firewalls and network segmentation.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks and apply performance tuning to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery.
- Automation: Lead efforts in automating network management tasks, optimizing processes and reducing manual interventions.
- Collaboration & Support: Work cross-functionally with IT, cloud and security teams to troubleshoot network-related issues and contribute to infrastructure planning and improvements.
- Incident Response: Lead in resolving complex network-related incidents and drive post-incident reviews to improve future network performance.
- Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain thorough documentation for network architecture, configurations and troubleshooting guides.
- Leadership: Provide guidance and direction for network engineers.
What You Will Bring:
- 8+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership or senior engineer role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent experience.
- Certs are a plus. CCIE, PCNSE, CISSP.
Technical Expertise:
- Hands on experience with SD-WAN, cloud networking and hybrid environments.
- Hands-on experience with SASE, routing, switching, load balancing and telemetry technologies.
- In-depth knowledge of network security best practices (firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption, etc.).
- Proficient in network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, or similar).
- Strong understanding of IP protocols (IPv4/IPv6), BGP, OSPF, MPLS and VPNs.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and technologies (e.g., SolarWinds, NetFlow, Wireshark, etc.).
- Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers, providing technical mentorship and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Highly Preferred Skills:
- Expertise in data center networking and inter-site connectivity.
- Experience with large-scale cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of wireless networking technologies (Wi-Fi, 5G, etc.).

The compensation package for this role is based on multiple factors, such as job level, responsibilities, location, and candidate experience. The base pay ranges included below are specific to the locations listed and may not be applicable to other locations.
California : [$122,500 - $174,000]
Connecticut and New York: [$122,500 - $159,250]
Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and Washington: [$122,500 - $147,500]
Nevada: [$115,500 - $138,750]
Maryland and New Jersey: [$132,250 - $159,500]
Hawaii : [$115,250 – $138.750]

This opportunity can be remote, but candidates must reside in a state in which Shutterfly is registered to do business. This includes all US states except District of Columbia, North Dakota, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wyoming.
