Human Performance Program Manager
Arconic is currently in search of a Human Performance Program Manager to join our Environmental, Health, & Safety Team based out of Davenport, IA, Lancaster, PA, Alcoa, TN, or Pittsburgh, PA.

Job Summary:
The Human Performance Program Manager will be responsible for the development of the Human Performance integration plan which will increase the understanding of human performance fundamentals, increase understanding of error reduction tools and how to apply them, increase capability to reduce the errors that affect site events, increase capability to recognize error traps, error-likely situations and error precursors, improve capability to communicate human performance issues with supervision and management. This will include leveraging Equilibria behavior and psychological concepts for advanced error reduction. Additionally, the Human Performance Advocate will be responsible for training all levels of the organization in the Human Performance concepts and methodologies. The Human Performance Program Manager will report directly to the Vice President, Corporate EHS.
In this role, you will:
- Develop the Human Performance training model to be used across the company.
- Understand the basic concepts of human error prevention; including, modes of performance, traps, and triggers. Recognize the individual error traps or precursors present at work and off-the job. Use modes of performance (skills, rules, knowledge) to predict when an error is most likely to occur.
- Be aware of how different individuals take risks due to their natural personality-driven tendencies. This knowledge allows prediction of risky behavior and coaching opportunity for the organization on how to heighten awareness and mitigate risks (Equlibria model).
- Apply the AERO System as a core element of advanced error reduction technology. Use AERO as an interdependent system where individuals aware of and managing their personality tendencies interact with people, programs, processes, work environments, organization and equipment.
- Develop the Human Performance Steering Committee that is cross functional in nature to identify error-prone, risk-significant activities and design and implement task and system specific changes to eliminate or reduce chances of errors and events.
- Create and execute consistent training programs to achieve injury reduction and minimize exposure to occupational hazards as it relates to Human Performance.
- Coordinate EHS activities and programs between the businesses; counsel the managers and employees of the business and facilities to achieve reduction targets. Monitor the progress levels of individual facilities and businesses and tracks performance; revise action plans to meet platform and corporate objectives. Develop a strategy for integrating Human Performance into all aspects of EHS programs, including the EHS Maturity Process.
- Be responsible for budgeting strategic initiatives, training courses, and travel.
- Prioritize business risks; develops corrective action plans to successfully mitigate this risk and exposure and integrates this into business processes.
- Supervise outside resources and minimizes cost to the corporation and facilities. Serve as a liaison between facilities and government agencies.
- Solicits input of peers, facilities, and Business EHS Managers for new programs or strategic initiatives; actively represents and considers all viewpoints.
You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in related technical field from an accredited institution.
- 7 years of diverse manufacturing experience in Health and Safety, including program experience in Human Performance integration - Fisher Improvement Technologies methodology.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.
Exceptional Candidates also have:
- Certified Safety Professional (or demonstration of near-term completion of CSP)
- Master’s degree in related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Fisher Improvement Technologies, Inc. Advocate certification or similar
- Ability to motivate and encourage others to successfully complete objectives and program requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact, communicate and present to all levels of the organization’s hierarchy. Self-motivated and able to develop a strategic vision and corrective action plan without management influence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, be well organized and able to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to work in a fast-paced and every changing work environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
