The Product Engineer is primarily responsible for the design and release of components that have been identified by product line managers and other functional groups. The product engineer’s responsibilities will include engineering, application engineering tasks, as well as involvement with internal and external manufacturing engineering, quality and customer support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Internal part design
- Reverse engineering of products
- Designs developed through suppliers
- 1st article approvals
- Validation testing
- Quality/inspection requirements
- Failure analysis
- Provide Purchasing and Marketing support
- External Customer/Supplier interfacing
- Simultaneous engineering support for local and offsite manufacturing plant(s)
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Engineering Degree preferably BSME
Experience:
- 0-2 years’ experience
Skills:
- Manage new part programs at the individual component level, ensuring completion of assigned activity
- Apply a basic knowledge of engineering principles, established engineering procedures and automotive engineering to complete assigned activities
- Establish and expand skills in reverse engineering aftermarket products, building a strong foundation in part design and validation processes of the Engineering department
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and basic project management principles
- Participates in DVP&R completion tasks as assigned by senior engineering staff
- Prepare and complete sample approvals, testing requests; evaluate test results, and publish final test reports
- Support engineering quality issue resolution, evaluate returned products for failure mode, and provide actionable feedback
- Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to ensure manufacturability of designs, participate in feasibility reviews, and assist in implementing new materials and designs
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of customary materials and conceptualize designs
- Possess sufficient product knowledge to work closely with suppliers on product development activities
- Create and understand component drawings, ensuring full dimensioning and correct specification per engineering standards and procedures
- Establish skill in engineering software and tools as required
- Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for project management
