Application Engineer

Tenneco Monroe, MI (Onsite) Full-Time

Summary

This position will be application engineer for engineering design, development, and release of shock absorber, strut, and suspension module product for OE automotive customers. Employee will be responsible for coordinating and managing engineering design and development activities including CAD design work, validation testing, manufacturing support activities to achieve successful product launches, and will act as direct point of contact for customers regarding technical engineering topics related to launch projects and post launch activities.

  • Meet with customer to understand technical requirements for new business opportunities
  • Weekly or bi-weekly lead Supplier-Engineering meetings with customer
  • Act as single direct contact for R&D at customer
  • Develop and optimize high value, cost effective new part or system designs based on customer requirements and Tenneco engineering and manufacturing capabilities
  • Independently develop and deliver design presentations to customer that demonstrates how Tenneco can meet their needs
  • Manage and follow up on key launch KPI’s related to testing, design, DVP&R and FMEA's, drawings and BOM's and support prototype builds
  • Lead Design Manufacturing Review & Sign-Off for DV and PV Design Release
  • Lead or support tuning preparation activities and manage change management activities post-ridework (tuning) per Tenneco design control standard process
  • Lead or support internal or customer driven scope changes per TenPLUS procedures
  • Provide support to the manufacturing production facility to launch new products and resolve technical issues together with launch team in Tenneco MRS Plant
  • Coordinate/lead technical design development by usage of appropriate statistical tools (MiniTab)
  • Apply engineering methods and tools (i.e. FMEA/8D/stress analysis) to anticipate/prevent problems and provide innovative solutions
  • Coordinate/lead analysis of customer field returns and support warranty return analysis
  • Coordinate/provide regular updates to chief engineer
  • Support other departments (program management/account management/supply chain/quality/manufacturing engineering) within the product launch process TenPLUS where technical product engineering support is required (ref. TenPLUS engineering VSM)
  • Recognize potential patent ability of concepts/designs and potential infringements of new produc designs to existing patens
  • Develop appropriate knowledge centers for application engineering activities within project launch (lessons learned)
  • Ensure compliance with customer drawings and specifications. Resolve requirement issues directly with customer engineers
  • Participate in TenPLUS program launch meetings and report technical project progression to chief engineer on weekly basis
  • Weekly follow up and management of activities with product development for launch status.
  • Responsibility will require travel up 10% and include travel abroad

Required Skills:

  • Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, fluid dynamics-hydraulics, product design, and analytics
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write concise reports & to compose and deliver presentations to direct management, chief engineer and customer
  • Excellent organizational and team skills
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office application such like but not limited to: Excel, Power Point, Word, Project.
  • Experience in CAD (CatiaV5) is preferred
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills, including capability to work comfortably around test and manufacturing assembly equipment
  • Experience in problem solving methodologies: 8D, 6Sigma DMAIC, … is surplus
  • Experience with GD&T is surplus
  • Strong in teamwork & technical project management
  • Result oriented and customer (internal/external) focused
  • Ability and passion to learn and apply new skills
