ABOUT THE JOB - QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

Location:  Houston, Westplain Campus

Work Environment: Monday – Friday

Work Schedule/Hours:  Normal Business Hours

Pay Range: $30-32/hour - depending on experience

Job Summary

Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing visual and precision instrument inspection of manufactured parts for dimensional and GD&T. Specialized inspections using CMM, Portable arm, Portable Scanner, for compliance with drawing requirements. 

In performing your work, you will interact with multiple internal departments including Manufacturing, Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Accounting, and Shipping/Receiving. You may also work with external contractors. Daily workflow is assigned by the Quality Control Supervisor and/or based on project demands. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform thorough visual and non-destructive inspections of coatings to assess adherence to customer specifications and industry standards.
• Measure coating thickness using appropriate tools and verify uniformity, ensuring compliance with specified thickness requirements.
• Conduct adhesion tests, surface profile measurements, and holiday detection to assess coating integrity and overall quality.
• Monitor and inspect surface preparation prior to coating application, ensuring cleanliness, roughness, and compliance with required standards.
• Inspect the application of coatings to confirm proper curing, consistency, and adherence to environmental conditions during the application process.
• Perform final visual and dimensional inspections on finished products.
• Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for parts that do not meet specified requirements and process them according to established procedures.
• Document nonconformances in the SAP NCR module, completing necessary transactions in SAP for tracking purposes.
• Witness internal testing procedures to verify the accuracy of results.
• Interpret and execute Inspection Test Plans (ITP), ensuring proper procedures are followed.
• Interface with third-party inspectors to verify the completion of required customer requests and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Manage and track documentation flow, including recorded heat numbers and vendor certifications.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all inspections, test results, and non-conformance findings.
• Review coating specifications, standards, and drawings to ensure inspections align with project and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during inspections.
• Report on coating inspection activities, including progress, discrepancies, and any issues requiring resolution.
• Prepare customer final documentation package.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• NACE Level 1 or 2 Coating Inspector Certification is preferred.
• Proven experience in coating inspection in industrial, construction, or manufacturing settings.
• Familiarity with coating materials, application processes, and non-destructive testing methods.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as ASTM, SSPC, and ISO for coatings.
• Strong understanding of coating inspection tools and techniques (e.g., thickness gauges, adhesion testers, surface profile comparators).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create detailed inspection reports and communicate effectively with various teams.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with keen attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Education and Experience

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent
• 5 years of inspection experience in manufacturing environment.
