A Little About Us

Yahoo is a global media and tech powerhouse dedicated to connecting people to their passions. With nearly 900 million users worldwide, we provide a range of services from news and finance to shopping and gaming. Our mission at Yahoo News is to deliver unparalleled content to our 35 million daily users and extend our reach through collaborations with premium publishers, Yahoo News staff, and our creator network. To lead the charge, we need an exceptional leader to guide our team, and that’s where you come in.

A Lot About You

We’re seeking a Senior Manager to lead a team of social video editors and producers and  short-form vertical video content strategy across Yahoo News social channels, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube. As a senior manager, you will be instrumental in shaping our approach to social video, including creator-style content, TikTok-inspired formats, and live-streaming opportunities. You will be an effective leader, fostering creativity and collaboration within your team while driving innovation.

In this role, you will oversee video production and editing, coach on-camera talent, and develop strategies to create compelling new formats on social media. You will be deeply knowledgeable about the latest TikTok trends and use your editorial experience to determine how and when Yahoo News should jump into conversations. This role requires extensive collaboration – with editors, producers, and creators – to ensure Yahoo News’ video content is both editorially rigorous and highly engaging.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor video editors, producers, and creators. Provide guidance on script writing, on-camera reporting, and video production techniques. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

  • Strategic planning and strategy: Along with the Director of Social, develop and implement the video content strategy for Yahoo News’ social media channels. Oversee the planning, prioritizing, and pacing of video releases to align with strategic goals.

  • Content Oversight: Ensure the creation of high-quality, compelling video content. Ensure content is editorially sound and meets strategic goals and platform-specific needs.

  • Video editing: Quickly produce and edit compelling, high-quality video content in Adobe Premiere, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and platform-specific needs.

  • News judgment: Collaborate with teams across Yahoo to ensure timely and accurate video coverage of breaking news, key events and conversations taking over the internet. Direct coverage of live news events, quickly identifying and cutting key moments that will resonate with Yahoo audiences.

  • Jump on trends: Use social listening tools to identify viral videos and internet trends. Quickly turn around creator-style videos that are editorially sound and highly engaging, using native social features when possible.

  • Audience focused: Develop and implement strategies that consider platform-specific requirements and audience preferences. Use video performance data to make strategic recommendations for content.

  • News experience: Maintain a consistent editorial voice and uphold Yahoo News’ standards for news content across all platforms.

  • Directing: Coach video editors, creators and reporters in script writing and on-camera reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in video editing and news content strategy, with significant experience in social media-focused roles. Prior management experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple video projects and a team simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience as the editorial lead on key news events in a large newsroom or media organization.

  • Experience coordinating multiple producers, reporters and editors at one time with a strong ability to multitask and prioritize.

  • Expertise in video editing software and tools, including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and other relevant applications.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms and video best practices, including emerging trends and audience engagement strategies.

  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to craft video content that aligns with editorial standards and business objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.

  • Experience with analytics tools and making data-driven decisions to enhance video performance.
