Principle Design Engineer - Valves Job Details | Celeros Flow Technology

Celeros Flow Technology Houston, TX (Onsite) Full-Time

ABOUT THE JOB - PRINCIPLE DESIGN ENGINEER

Location:  Houston, Westplain Campus

Work Environment: Monday – Friday

Work Schedule/Hours:  Normal Business Hours

Pay Range:  Up to 140k based on experience

Job Summary

You will represent the Copes-Vulcan engineering team for our Houston facility where production planning, purchasing, machining and assembly of our Nuclear and commercial valves is done. In addition to product design work, you will support the manufacturing to help resolve issues and disposition parts.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Configuring products and designs to specific applications in power generation.
  • Contributing to the efficiency of the Design and Development Section and ensuring timely and commercially effective completion of all projects allocated to you.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and expertise as it relates to the codes and standards applicable to our business and ensuring that all design reports and technical calculations are produced in a way to satisfy these codes.
  • Developing new and improved products to meet the needs of the Company's marketing plans and to maintain the Company's leading position in the field.
  • Drafting as necessary on design projects.
  • Develop dedication plans for the nuclear related program.
  • Champion the Squib valve design used in the AP1000 reactor.

More specifically, you will:

  • Develop and maintain engineered, cost effective products that support the Company's goals.
  • Develop product specification sheets that describe the technical aspect of the product, providing sizing procedures, assembly procedures and instruction manuals.
  • Design technically advantageous products that meet the marketing goals of the company.
  • Meet with other departments to ensure projects are meeting goals.
  • Provide technical follow-up after project release, including field assistance.
  • Assume technical ownership of the Company's products.
  • Perform calculations as required to support the project design and ASME Codes.
  • Produce or check, and stamp Design Reports and other special technical calculations as required to support sales orders.
  • Maintain skills in 3D design and drafting on the company CAD system and use these skills in support of design projects.
  • Keep your personal knowledge current by constant reading of periodicals and by attending seminars and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop new and cost-effective methods and materials to solve problems in performance or function.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Subject matter expert with the following design standards: ASME B16.34 (valves), ASME B&PV Code Sections I, II, III, VIII (Div. 1 & 2) (valves and pressure vessels).
  • Knowledge of valve types, valve design, valve applications, valve trim, actuation (manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, motor), valve accessories (positioners, etc.), hydrostatic testing, seat leakage testing.
  • General familiarity with manufacturing processes, including MOST of the following: castings, forgings, stamping, machining, EDM, welding, heat treat, tempering, plating, dimensional inspection, GD&T, and non-destructive testing (RT, LP, MP, hardness, PMI).
  • Understanding of statics, stress, and deflection due to mechanical and thermal loads, fatigue, heat transfer, fluid flow, vibration, steam properties.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to achieve goals independently and contribute as a team player.
  • You also will need to be willing to travel up to 10% of the time, to interact with other offices and visit customer sites. You may be gone up to a week at a time during training.

 

Education and Experience

Required

  • A bachelor’s (BS) from four-year College or university in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • 10+ years of experience in design for manufacturing with valves, preferably globe valves.
  • Experience with solid modeling, 2D drafting, use of proper tolerances and GD&T.
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word, as well as ANSYS FEA and CFD tools.

 

Preferred:

  • An MSME/PhD degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience with ANSYS, Fluent and Mathcad.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Vault and AutoCAD. Bachelor’s degree (BS) from four-year College or university in Mechanical Engineering.
  • MSME and professional engineer license preferred. Experience in ANSYS and Fluent a plus.  PE is required.
