Director, Business Development and Industrial Sales

The Director of Business Development and Industrial Sales is responsible for the overall business activities associated with Powertrain’s business development, with a focus on the Industrial segment.  This position will be responsible for directing the activities of a team of Account Managers.The Director of Business Development and Industrial Sales is responsible for the overall business activities associated with Powertrain’s business development, with a focus on the Industrial segment.  This position will be responsible for directing the activities of a team of Account Managers.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Engineering or Business degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years working directly with Industrial accounts.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

  • Ensure sales and engineering focus on new business development across light vehicle, commercial and industrial segments is maintained throughout the organization.
  • Drive organic & inorganic growth (M&A)
  • Support coordination and alignment with corporate initiative leaders (OSE, VP Global Industrial Growth Strategy, etc.)
  • Develop purchasing and key customer relationships to gain new business. 
  • Provide market intelligence and maintain/provide customer product development schedule and timeline. 
  • Develop/monitor annual forecasts to meet the business plan goals and the requirements of the market.
  • Participate in the business planning process to ensure consistency between the commercial goals and the technical direction.
  • Responsible for managing team of Account Managers including goal setting, training, performance reviews, salary planning, and guidance as needed.
  • Required to interact closely with Operations and Global Manufacturing Engineering to plan necessary capacity and manufacturing capability needs to deliver the strategic business plan.
  • Manage the Tenneco quote process for all new business opportunities generated for responsible accounts.
  • Participate with the team to assure compliance to the APQP process.
  • Prepare all commercial documents and business case presentations for management approval and customer presentations/submissions. 
  • Work cooperatively with applications and product engineering, purchasing, operations, cost estimating, marketing, and administration group to win new business and advance Tenneco as a strategic partner. 
  • Program costing – work closely with plant controlling team to ensure Tenneco costing is developed correctly and program profitability targets are met.
  • Support Tenneco plants and departments to resolve customer issues timely.
  • Support compliance in quality systems during yearly audits.
  • Travel expectations will be minimum of 50%.
  • Capable of providing support as needed by manager.
