Job Summary

As a Service Mechanic, you will perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting / assessment, and repair work on pumps. This will include dismantling pumps and performing repairs on a variety of industrial pump types such as centrifugal, reciprocating, vertical in-line, and direct acting steam pumps. We'll look to you to bring a safety-first mindset. You'll work from prints, process sheets, with written and verbal instructions to tolerances of .0005. The role requires frequent interaction with customers to help understand and agree upon work scope and final acceptance criteria.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interface with customer personnel and Clyde Union personnel to perform hands-on shop troubleshooting / assessment, maintenance, vibration testing, and repair of pumps, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Use mechanical aptitude to assess damage and diagnose possible problems with the pumping equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures as required.
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, and reassembly as required including completion of applicable quality documentation in either paper or electronic form.
  • Use hand tools to perform disassembly and reassembly of rotating equipment.
  • Use overhead bridge crane and jib crane to position components safely in a position for work to be performed.
  • Use gauges, callipers and micrometres to measure work.
  • Perform quality assurance inspection of parts according to standard operating procedure requirements.
  • Perform manual statistical testing to ensure machine is re-built to specifications.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that interfaces well with customers and company team members.
  • Follow safety procedures to assure a clean and safe work environment is promoted and maintained.
  • Thoroughly fill out detailed inspection reports.
  • Work to standard work procedure (SOP).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to work independently performing basic pump service / maintenance activities, including taking accurate measurements, completing documentation, and referencing proper standards / documentation to ensure quality craftsmanship. Willing to train the right individual.
  • The ability to use hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, impact tools, hammers, mallets, etc.) effectively.
  • Basic math skills, including percentages and the ability to count accurately.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, millwright, welding a plus.
  • Measuring skills utilizing precision tools, micrometres, bore gauges etc.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for daily interaction with customers and fellow employees.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision while following routine procedures.
  • Safety and Quality-oriented, with attention to detail.
  • Fork Truck, ability to drive safely, training is available
  • The ability to work on multiple types of industrial equipment such as valves, gearboxes, and mixers is a plus.
  • You also will need to be willing to work overtime, call-ins, etc. as needed to meet customer requirements.

Education and Experience

  • A high school Diploma.  2 years of technical training is desired.
  • Manual machining operations are 40% of your job; lathes, vertical mills, horizontal mills and welding a plus
  • 5+ years of experience repairing pumps, rotating equipment or very similar equipment is recommended, willing to train the right individual.
  • Experience with other types of OEM Brands is a plus.
  • Experience repairing at least 3 of the following pump types: API overhung (OH1-OH4), Between Bearing (BB1-BB5), Multistage, ANSI, Vertical Turbines, Positive Displacement or Piston.
