Mechanical Engineer

Arconic Davenport, IA (Onsite) Full-Time

Arconic is currently in search of a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Davenport, IA.

Since it opened in 1948, Arconic’s Davenport, Iowa aluminum plant has been at the forefront of American manufacturing.  Built on the bank of the Mississippi River, the plant employs over 2,400 people and is a focal point of the global aluminum industry, with a significant percent of revenues coming from exports.  Through continued modernization, including over $600 million investment over the past decade alone, Davenport has maintained its position as a premier aerospace and automotive supply plant, and is today an important hub of Arconic’s business.

The Mechanical Engineer will provide mechanical engineering services to the Ingot department to safely meet Arconic’s business plan for engineering, production, maintenance, and quality standards.  In this role, you will serve as a critical team member to optimize the safety, efficiency, output, and quality of our plant infrastructure (including but not limited to machine tools & roll grinding equipment, buildings, grounds, water systems, compressed air systems, environmental systems, and cranes) and manufacturing processes. This position is responsible for mechanical system integration for assigned area projects to create, sustain, or improve manufacturing infrastructure, equipment, and processes.

 Other duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Utilize project management tools for the successful implementation of both sustaining and new capital improvement projects
  • Coordinate all phases of assigned area mechanical engineering projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, project safety reviews, bid solicitations, design, manufacturing, equipment commissioning, and project closure
  • Manage external vendors and contractors who provide design, material, installation, and other support functions
  • Focus on tactical projects in the areas of safety, infrastructure reliability, training, and production
  • Lead and support the execution of problem-solving efforts related to process and machine improvements
  • Although the person in this position works primarily daytime shifts M-F, it is expected that they work off-shifts and/or weekends as needed to support the functions of this role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Ag Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 1 year of Engineering experience in a manufacturing industry (co-op and internships may be included)
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to work & interact at all levels of an organization
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position may require access to export controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • 1 year or more experience with aluminum rolling mill or related technology
  • Experience interpreting design and control of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or utility systems for machine understanding and performing improvement modifications 
  • Experience developing and implementing mechanical engineering project work
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
