Night Shift
JOB SUMMARY
The licensed practical nurse performs those functions delegated and assigned by the registered professional nurse or licensed physician. The licensed practical nurse is responsible for administering nursing care, medications and assisting physicians with procedures and monitoring.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Graduation from a school of nursing in practical nursing required.
Required Licenses [Virginia, United States] Licensed Practical Nurse
Current LPN license required. BLS required. ACLS preferred. PALS preferred. ASLS preferred.
Required Skills Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management. Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing. Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department. Ability to discern legal implications in nursing. Ability to motivate personnel, problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner. Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing nursing care. Be able to problem-solve effectively to provide quality patient care. Provide excellent customer service including patient education. Works with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Be familiar with Paragon applications (order management and clinical assessments) for documentation purposes. Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system. Ability to complete assigned workload in a safe and effective time frame. FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting heavy objects/patients (patients 300+ pounds), stooping, and climbing stairs. Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside. May be exposed to bad weather when escorting a discharged patient to their vehicle. Involves mental activity and problem-solving, to include the ability to implement solutions. May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment. Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials. Exposure to blood, body fluid and hazardous wastes is moderate to frequent and must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy. Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients, to operate machinery. Speech, hearing, reading, writing and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirements.
