Reporting to the Executive Vice President and President of Rolled Products North America, the Vice President, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) will develop and implement world-class, forward-thinking health and safety management strategies, which comply with regulations and protect Arconic’s employees, contractor’s, visitor’s, customers, and those in their communities. S/he must continuously improve the cost efficiency of the EHS management systems while decreasing costs related to worker injuries, lost time, fines, business interruption and adverse publicity to the organization.

The candidate must be located near a Rolled Products Manufacturing plant in Lancaster, PA, Davenport, Iowa, or Knoxville Tennessee.

The Vice President will lead Arconic’s Corporate health and safety journey to drive exceptional performance. S/he will work cross functionally to develop an organizational strategy to enhance the HS culture and outcomes across all of Arconic’s business units. The Vice President will maintain and improve our strong EHS management system, leverage known good practice to improve HS results, and will develop an evolving approach to customer satisfaction, employee engagement and continuous improvement. 

In addition to the corporate health and safety responsibilities, the Vice President, Environmental, Health & Safety will be responsible for leading the EHS effort for the Rolled Products North America Business Unit in partnership with the Executive Vice President and President of Rolled Products North America. 

The successful candidate will be a change leader with a high energy level; have industry, technology, and functional knowledge; and be a team player with strong communication and people management skills. 

The new leader will be accountable for infusing the necessary sense of urgency and purpose in every aspect of the enterprise. Appropriate methods, processes, procedures, and operating frameworks must be examined, optimized, and executed with the goal of sustainable EHS performance.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Co-chair the Executive Environmental Health and Safety Committee led by the Chief Executive Officer. 
  • Chair the Environmental Health and Safety Committee.  The committee is comprised of Corporate and Business Unit EHS leaders.
  • EHS leaders have a dotted line reporting structure into this role and in addition to providing direction and support, he/she will mentor and coach EHS professionals.
  • Develop an annual Human Performance strategy to continuously improve the process.
  • Lead the Fatal and Serious incident prevention process and develop strategies to improve layers of protection including elimination of FSI risks.
  • Coordinate the Corporate EHS audit process and Rolled Products self-assessment process.
  • Make final decisions on OSHA recordkeeping and maintain the incident reporting systems.
  • Establish the EHS strategy and how it supports the overall direction of the Company, ensure objectives are achieved, risks managed, and the organization’s resources are used responsibly. 
  • Cultivate a culture of enthusiasm and understanding of the safe and sustainable practices and how each role within EHS contributes to the organization’s success. 
  • Develop and manage key EHS leading and lagging performance indicators. Track performance and recommend strategies, programs, and corrective actions as necessary to achieve EHS objectives. 
  • Develop meaningful cross-functional relationships with business leaders and team members. Understand their lines of business and collaborate on actionable items to address gaps and priorities. 
  • Act as a strategic partner to operational and functional leadership and understand their businesses, challenges and opportunities. 
  • Develop an environment which fosters and encourages continuous improvement. 
  • Identify internal initiatives within operations where pockets of best practice exist, and how to help expand them through the organization; Identify any gaps and create strategies to address challenges to success. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local health, safety and environmental regulations by keeping abreast of existing and new legislation/regulation, anticipating future legislation/regulation, interpreting standards, enforcing adherence to regulation and advising management on needed actions. 
  • Develop talent across the EHS organization and ensure identification and retention of high-potential individuals to effectively manage EHS. 
  • Proactively communicate with all stakeholder groups, including the Board, executive leadership, and broader employee base. 
  • Actively engage in the worker’s compensation process to reduce costs.
  • Travel- up to 50% with some international travel required. 
Basic Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, or related field from an accredited institution
  • 15 years of progressive experience in industrial manufacturing or a related industrial industry 
  • 8 years of leadership experience
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Certified Safety Professional designation 
  • Ability to influence and motivate line business leaders to embrace new concepts, both through influence of leadership, but also drawing from personal success as a functional or business leader
  • Strong, influential, and hands-on leadership characteristics with a demonstrated track record of leading an EHS function in a world-class organization. S/he will be a motivational leader who engage people around a vision of exceptional performance related to process, behavior, empowerment and culture. S/he will engage leadership and relentlessly drive towards goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change in the EHS function. 
  • Ability to establish an organizational EHS strategy and implementation plan with demonstrated results. 
  • Demonstrated verbal & written communication skills; ability to communicate up, down and across the organization
  • Multiple plant and global experience
  • Must possess strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to delegate, manage and supervise effectively
