Michaels Software Development Engineers will develop technologies that change how our customers connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a Software Development Engineer, you will work on projects critical to Michaels needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our Engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

  • Experience in leading product development from start to finish
  • Ability to see the big picture, while navigating technology and partner development decisions and tradeoffs
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum environment
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to present ideas and concepts effectively.
  • Experience of the following is highly desirable: JAVA 1.8 & higher, messaging system, HTTP, SOAP/REST Web Services, XML, JSON
  • Working experience with Middleware architecture such as JMS,GCP Pub Sub etc.
  • Good experience with various testing frameworks
  • Solid understanding of API and integration design principles
  • API focused integration design and patterns experience for the web
  • Experience implementing requirements of the API layer like security, custom analytics, throttling, caching, logging, request and response modifications etc. using API management platform.
  • Experience with designing and developing API proxies and REST APIs using API Management platform.
  • Experience with converting web services from SOAP to RESTful or vice-versa, using API management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Significant experience designing, deploying, and supporting production cloud environments, such as Google Cloud (GCP) and private cloud environments.
  • Ability to apply security OAuth 2.0, TLS, certificates, KeyStore, and Trust store for the Apigee platform.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and developing high volume web services using API Protocols and Data Formats (REST, JSON, SOAP & XML).
  • Hands-on experience in writing SQL queries, store procedure and functions.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education

  • Masters Degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent experience

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Worked with large scale web traffic and data with strong foundation in Data Structures, Algorithms, Linear Algebra.
  • Advanced experience in Java, Python, C,  C++, MongoDB, MySQL, and/or other major programming languages
  • Experience in building search systems such as Elastic, SORL, Lucene , Algolia
  • Building large-scale data pipelines
  • Expertise with cloud services, such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience in machine learning/computer vision/natural language processing applications

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Software development experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
