Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance – Corporate, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing the Company’s quarterly and annual financial reporting packages for the GCGC consolidated group and its subsidiaries, and the Company’s corporate accounting functions. The Senior Manager, Finance works closely with regional finance leads to ensure consistent accounting policies are followed and compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages various accounting issues to ensure the Company’s compliance under International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and reporting requirements under the Company’s long-term debt agreements, including the assessment of new IFRS standards and review or prepare technical accounting memos.
  • Provides oversight over the Company’s corporate accounting function led by the Manager, Financial Accounting – Corporate, to ensure timely completion of month-end and quarter-end processes. Coordinates with the Manager, Financial Accounting – Corporate to resolve any financial accounting issues that arise and identify and implement improvements to current processes.
  • Oversees and reviews financial reporting work performed by the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst, including the preparation of the quarterly and annual Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis, Audit Committee presentation, technical accounting memos, and other ancillary regulatory and other financial reporting, as required.
  • Reviews certain monthly journal entries and working papers performed at Corporate, including long-term debt, interest expense, lease liabilities and right-of-use assets, and monthly results reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Responds to and resolves inquiries and issues related to financial reporting; provides financial accounting analysis/support for operational transactions and regional accounting teams.
  • Directs and manages significant accounting projects impacting financial reporting as they arise.
  • Acts as the primary contact for external auditors; coordinates audit timing, working paper requirements and communicates accounting issues.
  • Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to the Manager, Financial Accounting – Corporate and the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst. Develops performance objectives and delivers performance evaluation for each direct report.
  • Act as backup to the corporate treasury function.
  • Liaises and communicates effectively with all appropriate business units
  • Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all stakeholders: guests, management, team members, auditors and regulators
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties or manages other finance/accounting-related projects as assigned or directed

Education and Qualifications:

  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience. Having both public practice and industry management experience an asset.
  • Proficiency in IFRS, strong technical accounting skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, with advanced knowledge of Excel and ability to summarize and interpret large volumes of data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively communicate to various levels of team personnel, management, and external parties.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with little oversight.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or other ERP accounting software an asset.
  • Ability to exceed internal and external customer expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication.
