Position Title :  Risk Appraiser

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking an experienced residential real estate appraiser and appraisal analyst that enjoys problem solving to join our Risk Management department, which includes Appraisal, Quality Control, Representations and
Warranties (R&W), Compliance, and other key areas. The position requires both strong technical valuation skills and an understanding of residential appraisal theory.

The Appraisal Reviewer is responsible for analyzing valuations to determine their reasonableness, defensibility, and to assure they were prepared accurately. The Appraisal Reviewer will ensure risks are measured, monitored, and controlled and compliance requirements are adhered to on an on-going basis. Duties completed by the Appraisal Reviewer are to be performed competently, and in a manner that is independent, impartial, and objective.

What you will do:

  • Conduct desk reviews of appraisals for AmeriHome’s Correspondent division
  • Evaluation of the appraisal includes but is not limited to the review of the appraisal to ensure FHA/lender/investor guideline compliance, determining property eligibility, evaluation of property condition and necessary repairs, validating data integrity of the appraisal, identifying significant discrepancies in valuation, sales comparison approach analysis, review of the comparable sales and market data, and determining the acceptability of the appraisal’s value conclusions.
  • Review, research and respond to agency repurchase demands and other investor findings / inquiries
  • Provide valuation services for various AmeriHome and Risk Division Departments (Consumer Direct, Servicing, Secondary/Post Closing, Quality Control, Rep and Warrant, Legal, etc.) 
  • Maintain appraisal and valuation service workfiles as required under USPAP
  • Act as a resource and subject matter expert for questions regarding appraisals and valuation services to AmeriHome Operations and Underwriting staff, management, vendors and sellers
  • Provide administrative assistance for outsourcing desk reviews and other valuation services
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will need:

  • Appraisal desk review experience in a multi-state environment; multiple formats including narrative 
  • Minimum seven (7) years full-time appraisal experience; 
  • Residential or General certification required; license(s) must be maintained current and in good standing
  • Field experience – appraisals, field reviews, site analyses, etc.
  • Ability to research and resolve complex appraisal and valuation-related issues independently
  • Working knowledge of current agency (FNMA, FHLMC, HUD/FHA, USDA) appraisal guidelines and procedures related to one-to-four unit real estate appraisals
  • Working knowledge of current USPAP standards rules related to one-to-four unit real estate appraisals and appraisal reviews
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Time Management skills; the ability to prioritize and execute tasks and projects within established timelines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc) and with Adobe Acrobat

What will really catch our eye:

  • Institutional (bank, mortgage company, etc.) appraisal review and operations experience preferred
  • Demonstrated skill analyzing complex one-to-four unit residential appraisals in all regional and market environments
  • Basic knowledge of mortgage underwriting practices
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred, but not required
