Job Description

It takes powerful technology to connect our brands and partners with an audience of nearly 900 million. Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process trillions of data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world. Want in?

A Little About Us

When you impact millions of people every day, you become a large target for adversaries of all types within all layers of the stack. Our job is to keep our users safe and make Yahoo one of the safest places on the Internet.

We are the information security team at Yahoo, known as "The Paranoids"

As an investigator on the E-Crimes team within the Paranoids, you will be charged with disrupting abuse targeting Yahoo users and using Yahoo products, such as Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance. You will play a key role in defending millions of Yahoo users and ensuring we are doing everything in our power to keep them safe.

A Lot About You

We’re looking for an E-crime Investigator who is passionate about disrupting online abuse at scale. You excel at efficiently handling numerous technically intricate investigations, all while keeping a steadfast focus on the team's overarching mission to help as many individuals as we can. You can communicate technical investigative details to both technical and nontechnical audiences, and you can collaborate with cross-functional teams and the security community at large to drive change.

You are an ideal candidate for our team if you value:

  • Making the Internet a safer place for everyone.

  • Using big data to solve big problems.

In a typical day, you may find yourself:

  • Analyzing large data sets to surface insights into the threats facing Yahoo and its users.

  • Defining and orchestrating strategies to disrupt abuse at scale.

  • Producing threat intelligence to inform secure product design.

  • Evolving threat detections to prevent attacks against Yahoo users and products.

  • Providing investigative support to product, incident management, legal and customer support teams.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with big data technologies such as Splunk, MySQL or Hadoop.

  • Experience with Python scripting with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain automation workflows for efficient and streamlined processes.

  • Experience analyzing the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) of web-based abuse, including account takeover (ATO), fraud, email scams, phishing and malware.

  • Experience distilling complex technical investigative findings into actionable threat intelligence reports.

  • Excellent problem-solving, time-management and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

  • Strong verbal communication skills and an ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams.

  • Comfortable performing in a remote-first environment.
