Support Center - Irving

The Operations Specialist - Multi-Media Communications is responsible for the creation and delivery of multimedia content and communications for Michaels Stores, Inc. field organization. This position will focus primarily on video development, filming, and editing for technical and sales training. This will include maintaining a digital content library of the raw source, supporting digital assets, and producing content. The Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all content meets legal and Michaels standards. This position will also participate in the development and optimization of store processes as well as the testing of processes in stores. They will support workflow management and work with various departments to create communication, documentation, and resolve issues as they arise. The specialist will act as a liaison between the Support Center and field organization.

Major Activities

  • Multi-Media Development:
    • Develops, records, and edits communications including, but not limited to videos, animated communications, and traditional written communications
    • Actively works with supporting departments (e.g., Merchandising, Merchandising Operations, Loss Prevention, Human Resources, Sourcing, Marketing) to understand their communication needs and look for new ways to streamline, improve, and provide impactful ways of messaging.
    • Ongoing support of new SOPs and Job Aids using multi-media methods to enhance these tools 
    • Work with the Michaels Communications team to improve the internal communications and document repository systems experience including content development and content authoring processes
    • Work with Store Operations Team Members to identify and create solutions for Store-related issues
  • Process Development:
    • Special projects as designated by Communications Manager
    • Communicate with Manager on a regular basis to keep them apprised of any developments or changes which may impact meeting deadlines or completion of duties
  • Communication Support:
    • Review, edit, and proof high quality Store Operations communications including but not limited to general content, forms, templates, presentations, documents, SOPs, Job Aids, Team Member-focused marketing materials, graphics, and manuals to be delivered to the US and Canada store locations.
    • Communication content could include, but not be limited to the following: procedures, ad sets (including preparation), set up and signing, planograms and all required merchandising, marketing information/direction, calendars, and sales planner activities.
    • Deliver communication to stores through internal communication system on a timely basis supporting the Store Operations Communication Protocol.
    • Maintain and update contents on the internal document repository.
    • Maintain and update communication files.
    • Liaison between the Support Center and field operations, providing support and resolving issues related to communications, and communication timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 3+ years experience

Minimum Special Certifications or technical skills

  • Expert with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign
  • Highly skilled in video script writing, video creation/editing

Minimum Type of experience the job requires

  • Knowledgeable about standards for writing, editing, and proofing – including video filming and editing
  • Knowledgeable on facets of retail store operations and procedures

  • Highly collaborative focused on problem solving
  • Must be able to flex work schedule including times in which it may be necessary to work weekends and/or evenings
  • Able to manage multiple projects at the same time and thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment that has frequent priority adjustments
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with supervisor and key cross-functional personnel in the company to understand the business systems and processes and sources of data and knowledge
  • Able to work closely with and provide support to co-workers within the department

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Retail, Business, Operations

Preferred Special Certifications or technical skills

  • Experience working with a company intranet or field communications platform

Preferred Type of experience the job requires

  • 2+ years retail experience preferred
  • Michaels store experience preferred
