POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for Engineering initiatives/support that is part of the Focus Factory team. Individual works on various manufacturing support projects that include cost saving initiatives, new product launches, maintenance, and team focused metrics and goals related to safety, quality, productivity, scrap, and MRO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Part of a focus factory team with responsibility of supporting and maintaining safety, quality, productivity, and cost initiatives to meet team metrics.

Direct cell layout changes and process changes to improve throughput, balance operator workload, reduce non-value-added activities and eliminate and/or improve ergonomic issues.

Responsibilities for reducing scrap, improving process capability, and improving process efficiency.

Active in all phases of new product launch from initial design thru production/service life cycle. Works with Product Engineering teams, Customer, Operations & various functional teams on setting up and maintaining processes & systems for manufacturing of product.

Manage projects within time, budget, and technical targets.

Employee must perform his/her job within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks and applicable work instructions.

Lead teams on addressing safety or quality issues, champion BOS metrics.

Coach and develop Engineering Technicians

Work with Commercial, Product Engineering, and Customer teams on current manufacturing projects, new launches and engineering changes

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead project teams through specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specification and technical plans and product testing.

Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

Prepares interim and completion project reports.

Assist/encourage team to implement Lean principles and advance in 5S

CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or applicable disciplines from four-year college or university.

  • Minimum of five years engineering work experience in a related field or Advanced Degree with minimum of three years engineering work experience.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both through written and verbal means with employees at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must understand the plant goals and be able to drive improvements to help meet those goals.
  • Excellent computer skills (SAP, Microsoft Office etc)
  • Ability to lead teams, 8-D’s, Kaizen, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to support multiple shifts and adjust work schedule to plant needs.
  • Ability to understand/learn and apply BOS and Lean principles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment – includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, computers, telephones, desks, temperature controlled.
  • Manufacturing environment – includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, some welding exhaust, non-controlled temperatures, and PPE required.
  • Some travel which could include an overnight stay.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit frequently for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity for computer work.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective manner.
