Support Center - Irving

The Manager – Regulatory Compliance will research and analyze applicable laws and industry best practices to develop and drive Michaels Stores, Inc. compliance strategies. Areas of accountability will include both U.S. and relevant international laws as they relate to multiple compliance areas, including but not limited to product safety and specifications, key company initiatives, marketing/advertising, and other areas to be determined as needed. This position will work to ensure that Michaels Stores, Inc. has comprehensive and relevant policies in place to adequately protect the company and consumers alike.

Major Activities

  • Research and analyze applicable regulations for the U.S. and Canada (including Quebec), and any additional international expansions as needed.
  • Applicable regulations will include product safety and specifications (chemicals, labeling and advertising), key company initiatives (international expansion), marketing/advertising (social media, privacy, pricing), and other areas to be determined as needed.  
  • Evaluate current policies, identify gaps and develop new policies necessary to ensure regulatory compliance.  
  • Establish minimum product standards to be implemented by Quality Assurance, third party labs and vendors.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional key partners to develop and revise specific compliance strategies.
  • Provide training and regular communications both internally and to certain key outside partners regarding current and proposed policies.  
  • Manage outside partners and governmental relationships as needed (for example, TSSA, NIST, CPSC, Health Canada, FDA, EPA, CARB, ACMI and MSDS Creation Services (WERCS, 3E, MSDS Authoring)).
     

Minimum Education    

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience

Minimum Type of experience the job requires    

  • 7 years total industry experience with a minimum of 5 years in related regulatory compliance/affairs department
  • Strong experience in regulatory research, analysis and application

Other    

  • Requires critical thinking skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Consensus building skills

Preferred Type of experience the job requires    

  • Experience in retail industry or product safety preferred
