JOB SUMMARY:
The Launch Engineer is responsible for plans and direct activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products by performing the following duties.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide direct management support as they lead Launch Teams.
- Review launch plans with respect to labor, floor space, workflow and layout as a member of the engineering team.
- Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Review vendor specifications and equipment purchase plans with process engineers and launch teams.
- Provide technical support to management and engineering during analysis and planning activities.
- Assigns project personnel to specific phases of project such as technical studies, process design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and process implementation.
- Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contact requirements, and related specifications.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Control expenditures within limitations of project budget.
- Prepares interim and completion project reports.
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
- Manage projects using the Tenneco NPIS, APQP, and any other required Tenneco or customer requirements.
- Solicit quotations, select suppliers, order, review the designs, and facilitate the approval of equipment and tooling.
- Lead the plant level NPIS / engineering change team and manage all aspects of implementing an engineering change or launching a new product.
- Participate in the business unit NPIS/Engineering change team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, three to five years' related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of tubular steel manufacturing, forming, and fabrication processes such as but not limited to resistance welding.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS / REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts, probabilities, and statistical inference.
- Ability to work with fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal.
- Must be a strong, hands-on problem solver with firm decision-making capabilities.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating team activity.
- Must have program management and project launch experience.
- Strong computer skills are required for this role.
- Prior work experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business magazines, etc.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond clearly to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
