About the Position

An Internal Audit Internship at University of Phoenix provides an opportunity for enthusiastic students to supplement their formal education with hands-on experience in an area related to their field of study.  Interns learn and are exposed to real-world application of practical knowledge in actual business situations and contribute to business results through completion of assigned responsibilities, project participation and collaboration with colleagues within their own department and throughout the University. 

In addition, Interns have the opportunity to network with others already working in their chosen profession and to build relationships that can help them through the internship and into the future.  Actual duties and responsibilities during the internship will vary based on the program discipline.

What You’ll Do

Under the general supervision of a Senior Internal Auditor or Internal Audit Manager, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Provide clerical and administrative services requiring occasional discretion and judgment.
  • Perform a variety of specialized and routine assignments related to operational, financial, and IT audits.
  • Become familiar and assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance testing.
  • Enhance MS Office (Word and Excel) skills.
  • Focus on soft skill development in areas like organization, communication, and leadership in a business environment.
  • Establish a network of professional contacts with departments and leaders across the university.

What You Bring to the Table

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Technology, or Information Systems.
  • Able to commit to the internship position for a minimum of 3 months (May 15, 2023 - August 18, 2023) with a possibility of an extension.
  • Able to commit to 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) in a virtual environment free from distraction.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Sufficient oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with department personnel, schedule meetings and appointments, and take notes during meetings.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced virtual environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Hiring Range


The hourly pay rate range is between $18.00 and $20.00 per hour. The annualized amount, not including eligible overtime pay, is between $37440 and $41600.
