Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a Drafting Coordinator III at our Kawneer plant in Visalia, CA.  Base Salary Range: $55,000 - $79,000 

This position is a key part of our Technical Services Department in overseeing and managing the outsourced drafting vendors for accuracy.  In addition, this role will use computer-aided drafting software and established drafting standards to develop 2D/3D/BIM layouts, drawings, and designs that meet engineering specifications in addition to reviewing architectural, structural drawings and specifications, understands product usage and design for application, and retrieve information to complete drawing, layout, or design. The Drafting Coordinator will lead and execute large standard, modified standard and custom projects with support from Drafter I, Drafter II or outsource vendor employees as required.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Reviews and understands specifications without supervision to ensure products delivered meet performance and specified requirements
  • Reviews architectural and structural drawings, specifications, design drawings and sketches, understands product usage and design for application, and reviews with in-house or outsourced team to ensure correct interpretations
  • Read and interpret as sold quotes to define systems to be shown on shop drawings
  • Understands project flow from Sales to Estimating to Project Management to Technical Services 
  • Uses computer-aided drafting software and established drafting standards to develop layouts, drawings, and designs that meet engineering specifications.
  • Uses detail drawings or engineering specifications to dimension, scale or line locate.
  • Coordinate outsource vendor projects.
  • Check Drafter I, Drafter II, and outsource vendor shop drawings using established drafting standards
  • Train, support and mentor Drafter I, Drafter II, and outsource vendor employees
  • Prepares die drawings for projects and customer request
  • Set up kick-off/Preliminary submittal meetings
  • Prepares/Coordinates shop drawings and/or part drawings for standard, modified standard, and custom projects with support from project designer and project manager 
  • Responsible for ensuring outsource vendors meet established drafting standards 
  • Incorporates or coordinates returned corrections from internal and external customers without supervision 
  • Manages and holds vendors accountable to project schedule 
  • Keeps all parties updated of schedule changes
  • Interprets architectural and structural drawings, specifications, design drawings and sketches, and reviews with team (in house or outsourced) to ensure correct interpretations
  • Well-rounded knowledge of manufacturing, installation, and glazing processes
  • Adheres to policies and procedures
  • Maintains files and records of drawings
  • Maintain current set of Architectural and Structural drawings. Download from FTP sites as needed
  • Understands specification sections for a project to ensure correctness of shop drawings
  • Identifies and resolves problem areas / nonstandard areas of project by reviewing architectural and structural drawings
  • Communicates requests for information (RFI's) after review of architectural and structural drawings to the project manager or customer, if necessary
  • Provides estimating support for technical services by reviewing architectural and structural drawings to provide drafting hours
  • Provides architectural service support/details/information to customers/architects
  • Participates in project meetings with customers, architects, and general contractors
  • Participates in project mock-ups, providing input during the installation process
  • Provides continuous departmental improvements to reduce claims and improve efficiency of shop drawings

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Microsoft Office - Specifically Word and Excel
  • AutoCAD - Desirable knowledge: 3D, thermal modeling, BIM
  • Experience in curtainwall and window, with knowledge of Kawneer products and applications preferred 
  • Requires knowledge of a variety of standard, modified standard or custom products and procedures
  • Understand adjacent trades and construction sequencing
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Attentive to deadlines
  • Understand the importance of standards, asks questions and seeks clarification when needed, while operating with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Can lead others and work with minimal or no supervision
  • Comfortable working in a growing and changing environment
  • Internal Customers: Project Management, Engineering, Take-Off, Design, Estimating, Production Control, Tooling and Manufacturing Departments
  • External Customers: Sales, Architect, General Contractors, Customer, Service Centers and Consultants

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years industry related experience or 3 years’ experience with AutoCAD 
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Drafting and Design from an accredited institution
  • 4 years Industry related experience and 5+ years' experience with AutoCad
