The General Manager has ultimate responsibility for the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the Distribution Center (DC) in accordance with company policies, procedures and applicable laws. The GM utilizes information from Supply Chain Planning and Analysis, and the DC management team to provide operational decisions, leadership, and direction to achieve DC operational objectives.

Major Activities

  • Manages all aspects of DC operations to achieve operational objectives for Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Teamwork and drive an environment that promotes high quality customer service to internal and external customers.  Finalizes and approves daily plans and workload with the AGM and Operations Managers to ensure daily goals and objectives are achieved. 
  • Responsible for developing intermediate and long-term operational plans for the DC, including equipment needs, staffing levels, and inventory management.  
  • Ensures that all departments are performing efficiently and accurately in accordance with DC and department goals. 
  • Responsible for the overall financial management of the DC, including budget development, re-forecasting, and achievement.  Monitors and approves all expenditures including payroll administration, building maintenance, and requests for capital.  Monitors and verifies P & L reports to ensure the DC is tracking well against expectations.   
  • Maintains contact with Zone Vice Presidents, District Managers and Store Managers to prevent or resolve problems and ensure appropriate levels of store service.   Partners effectively with Transportation team to ensue delivery schedules are maintained.  
  • Mentors and advises DC leaders with regard to operational and strategic decision making.  Leads succession planning efforts and development efforts to build a strong leadership team and bench strength.  
  • Communicates timely information to the VP of Logistics, Support Center team, DC leaders and DC team members.  Notifies VP of Logistics of any critical issues regarding DC operations or customer service issues. Conducts daily operational meetings, staff meetings, and general communication meetings to provide company information, open lines of communication, and build trust with team members.  
  • Partners with Loss Prevention and DC leadership to drive Safety results and ensure a safe work environment for all team members.  May attend Safety Incident Reviews and provide input as needed. 
  • Partners with AGM and HR Manager to resolve precedent-setting matters, team member issues and concerns, and performance issues at all levels. 
  • Works with AGM and HRM to address team member engagement survey results by effective design, implementation and communication of action plans.  
  • Leads/participates in DC Network projects/initiatives as assigned; identifies and leads DC-specific projects as needed.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or Business preferred

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office software, spreadsheets, and WMS systems​

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Minimum 7 years’ Operations Management experience in distribution environment with demonstrated track record of success in achieving operational goals and objectives, particularly in environments of comparable scope/complexity
  • Advanced organization and project management experience

  • In-depth understanding of DC SOPs, policies, processes, and metrics
  • Advanced Communications skills including written and verbal abilities and active listening to understand issues of depth and complexity
  • Ability to influence decisions through interpersonal skills versus power of position
  • Practices and models “Respectful Workplace” behaviors at all times
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and recognizes the need to flex his/her schedule, particularly in a multi-shift organization
  • Available for overnight travel for training, meetings, projects, etc.

Preferred Education

  • Advanced degree a plus

Preferred Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Additional related training/certification is also a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Regular sitting when working in an office environment
  • Regular standing/walking, both in the office area and within the warehouse
  • Infrequent bending, stooping, kneeling and twisting
  • Infrequent light lifting/carrying of items of varying weight
  • Repetitive motion and movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers

Work Environment

  • This position is based in a climate-controlled office setting but will have regular exposure to the warehouse, which features extreme temperatures dependent on external climate and proximity to dock doors/exits
  • Exposure to moderate noise level from DC conveyor/sortation system and powered industrial equipment when in the warehouse
