Position Overview:

The responsibility of the Director - Conventions Business Development is to cultivate and solicit new accounts and bookings to generate incremental opportunities (leads) to the property sales team that align with the Companies customer profile to meet and exceed sales quotas and budgeted financial revenues.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet and exceed budgeted and financial revenues.
  • Strategically solicit new prospective accounts, resulting in the generation of qualified incremental leads and revenue opportunities that meet defined business parameters to be distributed to the Property Sales Team.
  • Execute sales action plans for the development of a designated market segment.
  • Develop strategic customer account plans which identify meeting opportunity profiles for ongoing engagement.
  • Research targeted key customer strategic meeting priorities and develop presentations that effectively positions all of the benefits of the property and offer a unique value proposition to generate incremental opportunities for the property.
  • Serve as an industry relations representative in-market on behalf of the Company through engagement in appropriate membership organizations and associations.
  • Create experiential in market customer events, attend relevant industry events, which provide a direct ROI.
  • Understand the overall market competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand and how to sell against them.
  • Partner with customers to understand their buying process, identify multiple key meeting influencers and roles within the process to effectively cultivate the account.
  • Understand customer economic trends, industry trends, regulations and potential new business opportunities.
  • Manage effectively within the defined sales roles, internal sales processes and departmental/company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and articulate ideas externally and internally at the account and opportunity level that are innovative and supported by reliable data that align with departmental strategies.
  • Regularly and independently engage with cross-functional departmental teammates to understand product and services available to Groups and how the Hotel differentiates itself from the competitive set.
  • Travel and participate in designated market sales calls, customer events, entertainment, networking events to ensure continuous client engagement that align with market objectives, midweek, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel for on property Site inspections and training (as needed).
  • Support other members of the Sales Team as needed.
  • Manage effectively within the defined sales roles, internal sales processes and departmental/company policies and procedures.
  • Enter required data into CRM system to document all pertinent daily Sales activities, travel, cataloging account and client information accurately as defined by department SOP’s.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 6 years professional Hotel Sales experience at a luxury property in meetings industry in strategic account development role required
  • 2 years of experience selling large complex group business, either at property or sales office preferred
  • 4 year college degree preferred
  • Knowledge of property operations preferred

  • Strong Research and Development skills
  • Problem Solving and Critical thinking skills
  • PC proficient in applications such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Power Point
  • Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
