We have an immediate need for an Application/Project Engineer II for our office located in Springdale Arkansas.  Under the direction of the Engineering Manager the Application/Project Engineer II will work with external customers and architects and internal sales, front-end, architectural services and product development teams to provide relevant and timely technical solutions.  

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Project Estimator, analyze incoming quotation requests primarily from architectural plans and specifications or with Technical Services primarily from shop drawings and architectural plans to apply the appropriate Kawneer products to the project with respect to air, water, thermal, sound and structural performance design criteria given, including hurricane impact, blast and seismic, as required, as well as meet all Federal/State/Local building codes.  Will perform this work in coordination with the appropriate end user to meet the needs of our customer;
  • Locate all elevations of architectural aluminum framing and aluminum entrances from architectural plans and specifications, including how and where they anchor back to the building structure;
  • Utilize project structural drawings, determine design criteria for the external cladding of the project.and confirm points of anchorage for framing systems and entrances to steel structural elements;
  • Develop wind loads to be applied to framing systems and entrances from design criteria typically given in structural drawings and project specifications;
  • Perform basic structural analysis when analyzing projects in for bid with respect to the particular product being used using commercial software like C-Beam, and other in-house tools;
  • Design any non-standard system anchorage components required or confirm standard system anchorage performs to the project design criteria;
  • Provide conceptual custom or modified standard product designs/details to meet design criteria on projects, when required;
  • Work based on a schedule with deadlines with multiple projects at any given time;
  • Convey to the end user all product application information specific to the project being evaluated both with mark-ups on the architectural/shop drawings, and in written form;
  • Work with customers, sales and architects/contractors to provide design solutions using existing and custom products;
  • Coordinate blast application needs with blast engineering consulting firms.

  • AutoCAD skills for creating custom or modified details/drawings

  • Ability to function in an environment with tight deadlines.

 Major Customers:

  • External: Architects, Customers and outside vendors.
  • Internal: Internal sales, front-end, architectural services and product development teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required;
  • 1-2 years Project Engineering experience – working with drafters developing shop drawings;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years Fenestration Industry experience;
  • Civil or Mechanical Engineering Degree;
  • Basic understanding of Kawneer products either from experience gained within the industry or previous employment with Kawneer;
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting Architectural Plans and Specifications.
